Yahoo just introduced new fee structure for their auction business, it looks pretty good, alot cheaper than Ebay. To me Yahoo auction site (just the site, maybe not the Yahoo rep) is alot more user friendly.

http://help.yahoo.com/help/auctions/afee/afee-06.html

Let's talk about how this new fee structure effect Ebay big boy bullying behavior.

Yahoo is going to hurt ebay alot in the near future. yahoo sat down with ebay powersellers to see what it would take for them to go to yahoo. So here is what we have:

1. new low insertion fees
2. new low final falue fee
3. new non paying bidder policy
4. new community message board
5. links allowed in auctions
6. access to bidders emails
7. new advertising
8. yahoo warehouse

Well, if Yahoo really did "sit down with eBay Power sellers" (I don't believe anything the Yahoo yahoos say), then I suggest any ideas coming out of those sit downs will be a bad thing for the everyday buyer and seller.

EBay power sellers don't exactly have a good rep out there ...

At least it will "hopefully" lead to some more competition. To be honest I will still be selling mainly on Ebay but will start experimenting with Yahoo - the only downside is that from what I've seen of the site, there just isn't the same quantity of sales. I realsie the more people who swap sites the better but in reality how many can afford to?

Ok RB so why don't I have a good rep?

What is wrong with power sellers now? I would really like some insite on this.

The new fee structure on Yahoo looks great. Now if they could just figure out a way to encourage bidding. Not much is moving there right now. Unfortunately, I don't sell sports cards.

what is meant by sit down with powersellers??
did they actually physically sit down in one physical location around a table and hash out the new policy??
if so,these powersellers must be gold sellers who move a few hundred thousand to 1 million sales each year.
if so,these powersellers are selling electronic goods such as laptop,pc,camera and scanners.
if so,yahoo shopping is packed with electronic makers such as dell, compaq etc.
so how is this going to help the compaq of the world?
log on to yahoo shopping and you find permanent fixtures such as barnes and noble, compaq etc.

Hi Jim ...

When I was buying on eBay:

- 7 out of 10 "power sellers" who I sent emails to requesting mailing costs to Canada didn't even bother to respond,

- several "power sellers" didn't respond to questions I had about their items (like, is it real or a bootleg, is it new or used?),

- one "power seller" negged me two days after the auction ended because I didn't want to send US cash to a person named "eBay Sales" with a PO box only. That "power seller" refused to give me an address and before I could offer to send a money order instead of cash, pow, I was negged

Other than that, no problem with "power sellers" from my dealings at eBay

It seems to me that the yahoo changes outlined in blairwitch's post are good for all sellers, RB, unless you don't like lower fees, more communication, the abilty to link to your website etc.

I am a bronze "powerseller", by the way, but just barely. And a big whoop-dee-doo for all it gets me from ebay. I won't even use their PS logo!

Now, Yahoo did not sit down with me, but the changes being implemented look like they will be a great improvement. I may even post a few auctions over there, and surf to see if there is anything I want to buy. I am all for encouraging more ebay competition. It is the only thing that will get ebay to check with their sellers before introducing more poorly thought out features.

Most sellers would welcome well designed storefronts, simpler checkouts and a community contribution program. The problem is that eBay Stores, Checkout and AFA were all introduced without the kind of research essential to their smooth functioning and acceptance.

Research that would have shown them these add-on must be strictly optional, as defined in the dictionary, not as spun by eBay's pr and pink flacks.

But that is another thread.

The problem YAHOO has is that they don't realize that it "PAYS TO ADVERTISE"- Ebay is the generic name for on line auctions- If they encourage buyers to look the sellers will come too BUT they have to let the people out there know they exist as a valid auction site- There is nowhere in the "plan" that I see this- EBAY did not start with Power sellers - they started with the corner drug store approach-and look where it got them- I would jump to Yahoo in a minute if I saw an ad on TV or a Newspaper that they are open for business-

I read somewhere Yahoo will be doing a big advertising push for auctions,in fact they had something on the today show a few days ago..s sports star on there ..
I feel bidding will swell on the 20th..have you checked out the "checkout message board"? people are finally ready to go & try something else
go to any auction at ebay, click on more info on checkout near bottom, then link to checkout message board..this is the only way i found it..never seen them this upset..this time could be different..
will be interesting to say the least.i also checked out yahoo's new community board too .good luck everyone

yhaoo is the number one portal in the world, its members log on to chat and research and read financial and other bulletins, yahoo shopping boasts some of the most prestigeous boutiques in the country.
auction has been a sideshow, but i heard yahoo japan auction is doing well.
most shoppers come to yahoo shopping to buy gifts for wedding, birthday, xmas and graduation.
some come looking for wallpaper, home appliances and electronic goods.
of course these are name brand goods mint in box condition, there are also small specialty shops selling phone batteries, specialty food and ink cartridges.
most shops sell new items, there are a few antique shops,i mean antiques which is defined by us customs as over 100 years old and is very good condition.

As for yahoo and advertizeing Here in New york I see 10 Yahoo ad on tv 10 for every 1 for ebay.

On the radio amazon and yahoo are very heavily advertiseing never hear ebay on the radio.

There is a news story about yahoo auction and and amazon at least weekly, Last story about ebay in the paper here was last christmas and it was a negitive news story about incressing fees to sell..

I to have heard that the changes on yahoo have come about from discussions with current yahoo sellers and many happy ebay power sellers and smaller sellers from ebay.

There was a story in today local paper about yahoo and the story made it clear that they are out to give Ebay a run for there money.

There new fees will allow most sellers to list 100 items for $5 + 2% fvf if on items that sell.

They also will be keeping yahoo direct a free payment service, Bid for features starting at .05 cents.

they will still host up to 3 photo's for each auction at no extra cost to the seller, they offer free counteraction manager the new yahoo warehouse.

There is also new priceing strutcher for there stores as well, They dont mind links to your online stores outside yahoo buyer and seller email can still be found for personel contact..

There will be a new NPB form to be able to file for FVF THey have FREE Gallery so your Items will show up inview pictures only.

As well they are working on there auction site so that aution templets will work in the sellers listings.

There was more I cant remember every detail but yahoo is out to get a good chunk of auction users and they are listing to the complaints of there users and ebay users and working with them to build a site that most will find something to like.

I Don't even usually run 100 auction at one time but I think for $5 it would be well worth it bidding has been picking up on yahoo since July in many catagories shouldn't be to hard to make $5 on yahoo for the trouble of running 100 listing or so for a month.

yahoo is going to be giveing ebay more then a run for the money by spring ..

They have made somw small overtures in the past and I tried to post there but there was not enough interest in the Antiques and Collectibles market that got EBAY started-Also they have to change their home page it is like a maze and really makes no sense to the new viewer- They have to stop screaming and make it a simple layout-

In the future if Yahoo does ever get to the point that it provides realsitic competition to Ebay [soemthing I don't think will happe nbut can always hope, we will just have to hope tah tthey both remain popular and contest amongst themselves for the selelrs/buyers attention.
Because you can guarantee that, despite the good press they are getting re: recent moves, that if they did become top dog they would let greed dictate their decisions just like Ebay. Mind you, you do have t ostretch your imagination to believe anyone could make as much of a pigs ear of things as Meg.

Yahoo auction has an edge over Ebay in infrastructure and man power, they can utilize the existing portal infrastructure for their auciton business, therefore they can operate at lower cost, that the reason why they are still existed today.

i dont think yahoo is counting on our auction fee to pay their bills or boost their stock price, but the eyeballing and traffic will get them more advertising revenue which have fallen due to economy.
yahoo is getting a nice commission right now from the yahoo shops, many of these shops sell name brand items priced a few hundred dollars,a 4% cut is a nice piece of change .

but yahoo will inherit some of ebay 's problems-romanian dealers who sell nokia phones, crooks, scams,he said/she said ,selling human organs, intimidation, harrassment, psychopaths, serial killers, fakethis and fake that.

I am completely fed up with ebay. The new checkout feature finally sent me over the edge. I am going to put a bunch of auctions on Yahoo for my minimum acceptable price and see how they do. It's so cheap, why not?

I tried Yahoo a year ago with poor results. Let's hope things are changing.

There are many sellers big and small fed up with Ebay that are not just talking about moveing to yahoo they have already started not waiting for the 20th.

I dont think most will put all there eggs in one basket any more most see the results of thats with some work yahoo will be good competition for ebay and just help them think maybe keep them more honest and up front with there sellers.

I am very excited about yahoo's new fees. Lets see sales are bad on ebay too so I can either spend $30.00 to list 100 items on feeBAY, or $5.00 on yahoo. Plus I can list anytime of the day and choose what time my auctions will end. If I use yahoo picture service I can quit using andale which will pay for my insertion fees. I saw the yahoo announcement on CNBC and yes they have a bullseye on ebay right now. They know sellers are at wits end, and all I can say is perfect timing. Here is 2 more things I just took notice of.

1. If your item doesn't sell the first time, you can relist your auction. If it sells the second time, we will refund the second listing fee.

2. If you choose to buy extra promotion for your item and your item sells, we will refund 50% of the promotion fees.

Also it was on the news yahoo won the suit France placed about nazi items.

I didnt Wait for the 20th I started putting listing back up on yahoo tonight I stopped listing on yahoo last march because of there fees but when I look back in my records even though some item listed a few times before they sold the price I got was alway near double what I have been getting on ebay.

for every $3 I made on ebay I made $6 to $10 for a similar item on yahoo and you cant beat .05 listing fee and an auction site with built in auction management everything cant be done for one same price.

The Giant (in term of traffic and infrastructure) is awaken, with the support of Ebay defected sellers, I think something interested is developing in online auctioning world. As a seller, we want more competition among auction houses, lower fee, better features, good support, Ebay can't provide these to us, hopefully Yahoo can.

Hopefully they will take away some business from Ebay. I would not expect ebay to lower fees, but it would be nicer if they would alter some of their strict policies, i.e. banners, links, etc. I don't think most will stop listing on ebay, but why not list on Yahoo now. I will

Sorry, I'm not about to sacrafice my income to move to Yahoo completely. I'm already there and it's not worth the lower listing fees. If business picks up then maybe, it will be worth it.

dman,

I've been watching the Yahoo listings and I'm not seeing much of an increase.

They have to advertise, advertise advertise-they have to attract the antiques and collectibles buyers and sellers that EBAY has thrown away-They should also connect with a cable station like HGTV whichs runs antiques and collectible programs-As a matter of fact they should try to get Leslie Hindmann from At The Auction and the Appraisal Fair on their staff- She is dynamite-I think they are still going around in circles chasing EBAY instead of saying OK here we are and we can do it better

I have been in the on-line business for 5 years. I have a 7500 plus rating on ebay. I stopped selling full time and went part time about a year ago as Ebay started to raise the fees and the rules. I felt Yahoo kept missing the mark...so I have never listed much on Yahoo. But I really think this one is well thought out and will be hitting Ebay at just the right time -- CHRISTMAS RUSH -- I dont know if anyone else has noticed -- but Ebay's site in general has been sluggish and slow now that they are near 6.8 million aucitons. I wasted 2 hours a few nights ago trying to relist 6 items. The only reason I tryed to relist them was to save $15.00 because of the crazy listing fees structure. The Ebay engineers will see that the SITE crashes, with all the new little updates, checkout, etc. Yahoo -- I think your on the right track and I know -- I will start spending more time looking and probably listing on Yahoo.
