Never thought it would happen to me, but I just happened to bump into an auction that was linking to a photo on my image hosting service...well, they paid for it...here is the auction...1058174830

This guy may be really surprised when his counters start to go up dramatically, that's for sure.

I notice he has a new picture in his auction now. It's coming from AW picture hosting. I wonder if that's his or did he borrow someone elses?

Keep an eye on this one. He's still linking to your image, and by the looks of his other auctions, he's stealing images and bandwidth from 6 or 7 other people as well.
I could be wrong, but I doesn't seem very probable that he has 6 or 7 different places where he stores his bobblehead pictures.

Yep... he's still linking to your image.

Well, the image I linked was funny, but I forgot to realize I had the same image running on my own auctions...NOT FUNNY and therefore inserted the image into my own auctions...duh..so I removed it and emailed the seller and told him to remove the picture or I would report him to Ebay...feel free to use this image, I thought it was appropriate for these types of sellers who steal other peoples work.

Can you rename the image you are using for your auction and then edit your auction to show the new name?
Then you can keep the "stolen" image named the original .jpg that this seller is using.
It might make him move a little faster to stop using it.

I could, but you can only edit your auction before anyone bids...in my case I already have bids.

I love it when someone is caught & mention is made of it on their auction. Serves them right.

Awhile ago I saw a post where someone stole a picture for a dutch auction & the owner of the picture put in large red letters "50% discount for all winning bidders, plus free overnight express shipping". in the middle of the picture.

It was on there for over two days. LOL

He sure had a lot of explaining to do to his bidders.

Some people just don't get it...here is the sellers response I just received...

Billy Bob Johnson,

If the item is the same as the one you are selling, what the hell is the
difference if I link to that picture? If you have nothing better to do than
to sit on your computer for 22 hours a day, making sure no one steals your
precious pictures, I'm not gonna waste any more of my time dealing with your
SH!T. Since you decided to put that nice little note on my listing, I'll be
sure to FU*K with yours as well. So, when you're done milking the cows,
Billy, take some time to get a life.

Lick my nuts,

Steve - IstealURpics

He's caught & knows it & isn't man enough to admit he's wrong & apologise.

Too bad your using the same picture, or you could put the discount & free postage over it. Ha Ha

Send his email threat to Safe Harbour at eBay & let them deal with this jerk.

I noticed your idea about putting a banner on your picture... good idea, hopefully nobody will want to buy from a thief.

I have to say that I take pictures all the time, because I sell things that everyone else sells. But I take the picture and host it myself. I mean, everyone uses the same pictures on the types of auctions I do, so I don't think it's a big deal, but to steal the hosting too... that's ridiculous.

I would notify eBay, because I know it's against their TOS. They should pull the auction... that would be great.

Great Job, Hard to believe he shops for someone elses images and doesn't even steal them (copy) but just links to them so as not to waste his time on the prep - setup work.

Since you are paying to host your images and he's linking to them, I would say that makes a very big: "What differences does it make"

Maybe you shoud have edited that picture to say: I'm a thief and stole this picture from a fellow eBayer. (Even though they had to buy the camera, take the time, edit it and pay to host it).

How does one edit a picture after it has been uploaded to AW - Wasn't aware that it was possible? Sure seems like something I should know though.

You need to notify eBay (Safe Harbor) for sure now since he has threatened you. They should get on him right away so that he knows that he's accountable. Perhaps that will make a "difference" to him.

Hi Everyone,
I notified SafeHarbor and all that, so all is well.

ccaswell...all you have to do is make sure you have the an original copy of the image on your computer, delete the file on AW...change the original on your computer and upload to AW again with same file name.

Since I have been converting all my auctions over to another Auction Management Service..goodbye AW ..I have been adding my logo to my images using a simple program called LViewPro...very simple to do...see example below...

Maybe they'll think before taking it next time.

"Lick my nuts"??

I agree, with an attitude like he is showing he deserves to be reported to ebay. Did you forward his e-mail with the headers? Good work with the image you changed.

Hi,
All emails with headers have been reported to Ebay...who knows what will happen...this is my first experience with them so I don't know how serious they will look into it.

ILIST4U - Unless you are on the AW power plan you are paying the charges for this guy to link to your AW storage image.

I recently had a thread on the Auction Manager Pro message board and learn this from Christopher at AW.

Hi,
I am on the Standard Plan...10 cent listings and 1% FVF, I do not pay for image hosting, it is included. Suffice to say, I am leaving AuctionWatch after having been here a long while...been shopping around and has finally paid off, I'm converting everything over tonight to the new service.

Billy,
Check your AW statement. You are being charged for that picture he stole. You paid .10 to launch your auction, but you are also being charge another .10 for him to link to your picture. It was a lot easier to spot when AW was only charging a nickle per auction, it made those dime attachment fees stand out like a sore thumb. Now it's easy to overlook if you're not overly dilligent.

The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

Hi Sue

I use Outlook Express and click on File, Properties, and Details to find the headers. Then copy and paste that to send to ebay.

Thanks Kiara..I use Outlook and will check the area you suggested. I know that Outlook Express and Outlook are slightly different. Why does Ebay require headers if you send them copies of e-mail? I'm wondering what informaton they get from them?

ilist4u - nice picture and adding the logo is quite attractive.....

However, I doubt it will stop picture theft. It remains quite easy to just copy your pic and then crop off the logo. That would leave your picture less your logo.

I like your logo though! It makes it a bit less likely to have a theft of your image efforts directly from the picture hosting site because there would be no way to edit that picture. With a logo, it would have to be saved to the theif's computer then cropped & hosted to wherever he/she chooses.

Still a theft....but at least you are making the theif work for the goods!

Great thread.........and funny too

Hi Again Sue

The headers show the actual path or route of the e-mail, where it came from and where it went and also the timeline. It helps for ebay to know this otherwise people could just fake an e-mail and accuse the other person of sending it.
