>>"you have to HIRE adults in the first place."<<

This is exactly right. If you have to monitor your employees to keep them from goofing off and surfing porn and gambling sites on the internet, then you have lousy, unmotivated employees.

Why not get rid of these time waisters in the first place and hire productive people. If a productive employee takes a few minutes out of a busy day to check on an auction or some other diversion, they probably need it.

I personally don't need to be treated like a child. I'm a self motivated individual who sets goals and tries to meet them. Treating me like a child (monitoring my activities) would make me resentful and cause me to look for a better working environment.
End Of Story!

I wouldn't hesitate to allow Internet access in the break room during lunch, but not on company time.

part of my job is to monitor net access. we only block sites that take up alot of bandwidth such as music swapping ones. then we monitor the sites people visit and if someone is spending all day on ebay they are spoken to.......

if you want to work around it best way is if you have an AOL account you use AOL to browse all day then it only shows you were on AOL. I believe not sure that AOL will get through most block on a firewall.
