It might not seem worth it to you, but it adds an extra several hundred dollars every month to my pocket doing it this way by customizing my own boxes. Personally, I would fire anyone who wasted money on packaging materials when that money should be be put to more productive uses.

Big whoop. You ARE aware that not everybody chooses to ship their items via priority, aren't you? You want to hear some screaming about s/h overcharges, try demanding people pay priority to ship a 1 oz item which will easily fit into a bubble envelope.

otherwise boxes are readily available at supermarkets. Many sellers have no need for packing peanuts and expensive box fillers (of course that depends on what you sell). I use newspaper, plastic bags as filler is needed.

How nice you have the time to waste going around to supermarkets begging for boxes. Most sellers who do this for a profession don't have time to waste like this.

Newspaper? How lovely. Not only does it add unnecessary weight to boxes (which your customers end up paying for) but the newsprint can add unnecessary mess as well.

Plastic bags??? What do you do, ask your supermarket to bag each of your purchases individually? You must shop a lot to get that many bags. As a buyer, I'd be less than thrilled to find a bunch of used paperbags stuffed in with my purchase. Do you make sure nothing has leaked on them? Certainly wouldn't set the tone of a person I'd like to do repeat business with. Ick.
