First let me say, I don't eat beef. No offense to the bovine population. Second, I love Canadiens, but...

I ship approximately 5-7% of my auctions to Canada. Yet they make up 80% of the bad experiences I have had selling items on Ebay. The funny thing is that the problems are usually something that isn't in my control. One example: A guy left me neutral feedback because he had to pay customs and Canadien sales tax, and felt that I should have paid for it. Another person was upset because he bought two items (2 weeks apart), and I charged him to ship the items both times. They were shipped seperately, approx 2 weeks apart as well). Fortunately he didn't leave feedback. Another guy was upset because Canadien customs opened his package, and he blamed me for it, citing I didn't properly package it so they wouldn't look at it. Note: no damage was done to the item. Once again, no feedback. Today, I got an email that threatened me with negative feedback because the item didn't fit him. Yet, I gave the tag size, and I even measured the item and noted it on the auction.
If you look at my feedback, you can tell I am pretty anal about making sure every transaction goes smoothly and everyone is satisfied. Apparently, Canada sets a much higher standard than I can. I guess that is why they have better beer (living in Portland, I would say Canadien beer is a joke), pink money, and Canadien Bacon (Ham). Sorry, but I am going with South Park on this one. Blame Canada!!!! LOL.

I've had good and bad experiences with
shipping outside the U.S. Canada is my
number 2 country to ship to (after the U.S.).
The problem I usually have with buyers
outside the U.S. involves shipping cost,
even though I list "more outside the U.S."
under shipping costs...

I've never looked into percentages of bad
deals to U.S. vs. outside the U.S. My guess
is that it is fairly close.

I'm sorry to hear you've had problems too,
and yours, to me, seem worse than mine.
I wish you better luck. :^)

I don't think it is the Canadiens per say, I just think you have had bad buyers that don't understand the concept of ebay. I have had not problems with them, I don't do a lot of business but I do say in some of my auctions Canadian and International buyers are welcome but must email me before bidding and then when they do I explain everything and say then say if you still want to bid thats fine.

Wow, professional hockey players are giving you hassles?

All kidding (and spelling errors) aside, I think it is unfortunate if they blame you for import tax (they should blame their OWN government!!) or customs. I have had customs open up things coming to me from overseas.

Anyway, these are reasons why I don't leave feedback first. I would just love to comment on the guy who left a neutral because of the import tax.

I'll give Canada this. Rush and Maple syrup. Other than that, they are United Statesmen (I say this, because they get offended by being called Americans). LOL.

I can see why many Canadiens are so hostile when it comes to auctions. What else do they have to do besides drink beer, watch/play hockey, and shovel snow.

While many Canadians are wonderful (Hiya! Wolf-lady!), many others do seem to produce a large amount of P&M'ing!

As a socialist country, ya get cradle-to-the-grave care at a steep price. Don't take it out on me that ya get taxed up the kazoo -- MOVE!

For the record, I mark all items mailed
outside the U.S. as a Gift on the customs
form (they gave me a cash gift, and I'm
sending them an item gift in return).
I've never had anyone get mad at me for
having to pay customs or tax, but I'm sure
the Gift thing cuts down on that so...

After over 4 years of selling on eBay, I am yet to have a bad experience with an international sell, specifically Canada. However, I have had a handful of bad experiences with USA peeps.

So what if it is spelled wrong. I have the easiest name in the US language and it is spelled wrong 75% of the time and I don't go nuts. Almost everyone of my personal checks and Money Orders received from eBay are spelled wrong. All I do is write it one way and then the right way. Life goes on. It just takes a little more time and ink.

Whether we spell something one way or another, there is always someone that has to come into this board and be the savior and correct us. We stand corrected and I hope that you never spell anything wrong. People in glass houses should never throw stones.

We are in this board to chat, discuss and heaven for bid if we spell anything wrong or say anything that doesn't go with the sentence structure, there is alway some one that will correct us. I never have a doubt about that.

I don't think anyone is trying to be a savior, or try to show they are superior. I jumped in because it was kind of funny. I think most did too for humor. People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones, but people who are worried about being damaged shouldn't live in glass houses...

I just wish they would identify themselves as Canadians when you state in the auction that shipping costs more to ship there. Very rarely an address in the return email. You get the check in the mail.....WALLUH !!! ......not enough shipping added.

Rocks?
Now there is an issue! We don’t have any. In fact if you want some rocks you have to go BUY them for a rock garden, which don’t grow? It is so frustrating here in Florida, NO ROCKS!

I almost never have problems with Canadian bidders. I don't believe I have had one not ask about shipping costs to Canada (although I go ahead and give corect rate if email ends in .ca). Or if they did, it was for a small item like a beanie that costs pretty much the same Airmail as Priority. The one problem bidder I had bid on Ebay USA in US dollars to me, a US seller, and was unwilling to send anything to me in US dollars. Wanted me to pay to convert the funds. Sorry, you bid on a US auction, you should have to pay in US funds.

Well, we've danced around this issue many times. I've had it with being politically correct. I've been on Ebay for 4 years and have definitely found that Canadians are not always, just 95% of the time, CHEAP, problem buyers. Did I say CHEAP? More than any other country they want some concession, legal or illegal. 50 cents off on postage on a $2000 item. Asking seller to fill out illegal customs forms. Unwilling to put up with International payment policies. On and on. For the few good Canadians buyers I've had, I'd just as soon wish I never had another Canadian buyer. A few are good, Most are a PIA. I think they have an inferiority complex. Just can't face the fact that there money is not worth the equal to American Dollars. Too much beer maybe, aye.

i have canadian bidders who would ask how much shipping first before they bid, which is a good move, but to dictate how much i should charge for shipping after winning the bid is something else??
bronze statue for 4.00 to canada by air??
but so far no scams,i love intl buyers.

That's just ridiculous buyer behavior. It has nothing to do with being Canadian.

Problems are all around not just for our dear neighbours to the South! We Canadians have many problems with Americans---they think US DOMESTIC money orders from the USPO are fine in any country! 90% + have never heard of an INTERNATIONAL money order!! They have NO idea how much a STAMP costs to any country but the US. They feel it's NO trouble sending US cash ---everyone just loves the US $$$!! They want to know how long shipping will take from Canada to where they live--how would I know? And when Canadians buy from the US they set lots of rules---NO cheques [even from a US bank!], most have never laid eyes on Canadian cash so that is out of the question, some won't take Postal US money orders--some only Bank money orders! Don't even start on excessive postage we pay! God Bless America! P.S. God Blessed Canada!

I have had no problems with the Canadian buyers and I can say I have had no problems buying from them, except I haven't ever. I buy from a website and the transactions are very smooth. I honestly think if we (buyers) follow their TOS they should be able to follow ours. Of course there is no customs for us to do, at least in the transactions that I have done. I know that there is in Canada and if we are honest and forth right as sellers, they should be the same as buyers. Of course it costs us more to send our items and they know it, they also know that when us sellers fill out the custom forms we need to be truthful so if that can't happen then they shouldn't bid. Most of the time in my auctions I try and say please: Canadian and International bidders please email me before bidding and at that time when and if they do I spell out everything to them. Then they can decided if they want to bid.
I didn't live to far from the Canadian border so often we would go their for a trip and all I can say is that their cities are beautiful, clean and the people very friendly.

It's too bad you have had bad experiences. You could write up a pro and con list to identify which would be better - sell or not to sell to Canada. However, to ensure you never have any more problems just don't sell to anyone living in Canada. Sometimes your peace of mind is worth more than money. ;0
