Since there are many things we do not like about ebay, what would you do to make it better?

First thing I would have Meg do would be to put a feature on the auction to add the seller to my favorites just like adding the auction to the favorites.

The feedback system could use a bit of work. Deadbeats should not be able to post retaliatory negatives.

Many transactions that lead to negative feedback could be worked out in time if people didn't get so heated. But then that would do away with Squaretrade and I doubt they would want to do that, right?

Well, I think if you have a user, who gets NARU'd by eBay for Violations, any NEGATIVE or Neutral feedback left by them should be eliminated automatically from current users. Also maybe a way that a Newbie can only leave feedback after they have been a member for , oh say, 30 Days (This probably would Not be considered, but I think might be a good idea). I know this would help in a LOT of feedback disputes. Also if BOTH Parties agree that Negative or Neutral feedback was a Mistake or wrong, WHY oh Why can't it Automatically be removed?? Instead of Charging $15 to Have it removed?? I actually think eBay for the Most Part does a Really good Job on most issues.

I'd turn back the clock about three years to when most eBay sellers were offering collectible goods actually worth buying and eBay was run as a real auction site, instead of the anything-goes worldwide flea market and massive junk merchandise outlet it has become.

I'd also probably pass a rule that said corporations were not allowed -- you had to either be an individual with a confirmed address and identity or have a DBA to be allowed to sell (just sour grapes on my part, inasmuch as big companies are now grabbing the lion's share of eBay sales).

I would have them change their search indexing so that words in singular, plural and other forms are all included in search results.

For example: The search word "beagle" will not pull up listings with the word "beagles."
But it should, shouldn't it?

I agree ~ and wish they could do like Bargain & Haggle does .... where you can put many hit key words in link to title... the title area is just not long enough most times

There is just way too too much stuff on ebay .. I always search by key words from home page and takes forever to view it all ... I have lost interest as a buyer BIG TIME and think a lot of others have also~ since my auctions are not getting as many hits or bids as they did months ago

I can't really do a whole lot to improve ebay, but I have made some suggestions to them, and some they implemented and others they refuse to.
If I ran ebay I would change the lousy feedback system; sell the monkeys; and get some equipment that isn't so prone to failure so frequenly.

I would like to see ebay create a different catagoy for imitations. The seller can list the junk but not in the authenic items. I hate it when I'm looking for something and end up opening up junk! Perfect example is jewelry

I agree the feedback system needs a lot of work.

The current three choices do not leave room to acurately describe the entire transaction. If they would not change the present system they should at least leave room to leave a larger comment.

I also think a person should not be able to leave feedback until 7 days after the transaction.

I'd like the listing's Title to be increased from 45 characters to at least 60.

First I would like to revise the items categories. Some are so vague and others are too descriptive. Women’s for example. The choices for Women’s clothing are too vague. Yet collectibles have their own category for every single little logo.

Second thing would be the reasons for Non Pay Bidder Alert. Why can’t there be a choice: Buyer changed mind. Or buyer flew the coop. Buyer decided that he over bid in a fury. Then of course: Buyer had a death in the family and now cannot pay due to having to fly to East Berlin to perform the autopsy. That way we wouldn’t have to wait an additional 10 days for a credit. Please allow me to move on just like the deadbeat.

Total agreement with the feedback theory. If you are the person that made the error, (non pay or shipped wrong item) you should not get to retaliate with negative feedback as well. That just stirs the pot and leaves the injured party sour.

I'd REBATE PowerSellers $25 on their fees rather than sending out cheesy "rewards".

I'm serious. I went to my P.O. Box this morning and there was an Express Mail package waiting. Usually this is some bidder using his company's account to send the payment. This time it was from eBay's fulfillment company.

Gosh, I'm so honored! I received a certificate (signed by someone claiming to be Meg Whitman), an eBay PowerSeller's ballpoint pen, and a PowerSeller's lapel pin.

Including the $16.45 for Express Mail shipping, this must have cost eBay close to $30 when all was said and done.

eBay, I'd rather have the cash. Please.

Automatic payments...auction ends, bidder automatically gets charged, $ goes to seller account. No more deadbeats and slow payers. Of course, would have to make this an optional feature for sellers, since some still like the old check method of payment.

To answer a few from the wish lists, you CAN add a seller to your favorites list, from the favorite searches page. Favorite sellers and stores are at the bottom.

And you can search for both beagle and beagles by typing in beag* into the search field. Everything with those letters in it will come up, but it won't find the auctions in which "beegles" is mis-spelled or something.

I would like to see a change in the feedback system. You should be able to click onto the # of negatives and read them without having to go through hundreds of pages to view.

Id Think ebay would do well to allow small sellers to build their business on the site using their business name - website links product add or whatever is reasonable. It was once a win win deal on the site and its been changed to a one sided greedy money grab with little benefit for regular sellers. They should also stop dragging in Low probability users to Pad their base numbers. These Users drive up prices on good buyers and then deadbeat on good sellers causing havoc and driving the community into the ground. Specifically the recent Points for bids programs and now the bidding game their running. this is why bidders wait till the last hour and I also believe its why there pushing Buy it now - Bidding is going south. Think anything will change - I dont

What I would do is dump the cannot update your auction title or description within the last 12 hours of the auction. Keep the cannot update it after someone bids. Add a cannot end an auction early within 12 hours of the auction end. This is because there are too many sellers listing items for $1.00 with no reserve that cancel bids at the last second if the bidding did not go high enough for them to make money on the item. This would force those sellers to list their items at a price they are willing to take for the item.
Last, I would put in a feature that the auction would get extended for 5 more minutes if a last second bid is placed. That way more people would bid because they would not get turned off by snipers.

I thought I was the only one who called her
"fat Meg". LOL! I'd change the feedback
system so that it was like Yahoo's (as far
as being able to change the rating and
having 5 choices for rating). The only
thing I didn't care for on Yahoo was that
you could type pages on one deal. I got into
a few debates because I did nothing wrong
and wasn't going to let the last word be
lies, and quite frankly it took a lot of
time. I'd also have it so eBay wouldn't
remove Positive feedback (they did this to
me once and it still makes me mad). And
I'd drop the listing fees and increase the
charge for when it sells to a flat 10%.
None of this needing a math degree to
calculate charges! And I'd not just fire
the monkeys, but I'd make dog food outta
them.

Lots more...no time...NEXT!

One more thing that I just thought of. I would make it manditory in order for a seller to get a refund on FVF, that they must file a NPB. Wait 10 days, then they MUST give a negative in feedback stating non-payment. Then file for FVF and also then give listing fees back. What this would do is help protect other sellers from deadbeats as I personally look at the feedback of all bidders that I receive. Then I know if I should use a short leash or know that the person whom is bidding is legite.

It's so obvious to anyone who has ever listed... Make the title field longer.

To answer a few from the wish lists, you CAN add a seller to your favorites list, from the favorite searches page. Favorite sellers and stores are at the bottom.

tradersjones I was referring to put a link on the auction sites to "add this seller/store to watch list" as they currently have to "watch this auction". It would be easier than the way they have it now.

How about giving people an option every year to eliminate three feedbacks (neg, pos or neut) and to remove any three feedbacks left.

Deadbeats should not be able to post retaliatory negatives.

I would add to kiara's idea to make the buyers pay before they can leave any feedback. So when they pay THEN they can leave feedback.

I agree with others, make the title field longer, for some items it is impossible to get enough information on the title to get interest. I sell mostly craft books, and I need to cover the areas of crafts in the book. Also, make the listing page quicker, I find the new 2.0 one even slower, maybe it's my computer, but it takes forever to keep clicking onto the next page. I certainly agree that some categories are so vague, it's just hard to know where to list some items. I think that if you have to file a fvf for an item, you should at least get the normal free listing that you would get if it hadn't sold in the first place.
