I just received an e-mail from a buyer who paid immediately after the auction closed and he paid without the shipping cost added. He said that my Auction Watch Checkout did not list a shipping rate so he shouldn't have to pay for shipping. This was a small ticket item that could actually be shipped media rate but no, he wants it shipped by Priority! Priority shipping will cost more than he paid for the item. I had the shipping calculator in my ad so he could have figured out the shipping rate and he paid by the PayPal link which also had a place for him to enter the shipping preference and charge. He paid instantly before I could invoice him with the total charge. To top this off, he said that I "Demanded" that he enter his info. in the checkout. I didn't demand anything! He also has a PayPal non-confirmed address in someone else's (possibly his wife) name. To top this all off, he is also a seller with over 300+ feedback. I am really upset about this and I would appreciate your imput on how you would handle this. I should probably just ship it to him and write it off and then put him on my blocked bidder list, but it really infuriates me, especially since he is also a seller.

1)REFUND his PayPal payment!
2)File for FVF -- "Buyer Refuses to Follow TOS"
3)Block his bids.

Of course this all depends on how you stated shipping charges in your TOS

tomwiii,

My ad and TOS reads that the shipping charges will be determined by the buyers zip code.

Forgot to add that the e-mail I sent to him after the auction ended said, "I can ship this item for $3.85 Priority or $1.42 for Media Rate. Please advise as to which shipping method you would prefer." He is still insisting that he should not have to pay for shipping because the AW checkout did not show these options.

I would definitely send back his paypal payment by using their automatic refund. I would then invoice him with a total, and if he does not pay, start the process of non paying bidder with ebay. You might get a neg, but it is better than dealing with this. On the positive side, since he is a seller too, a negative won't look too good...

You said that P/P said not a confirmed address. This is your out as you don't have to ship to an unconfirmed address through a P/P payment as P/P will not guarantee delivery. IMHO, I would send him a refund, etc, & get rid of the crook.

That's why I use a flat rate for shipping. I calculate the rate to the furthest place in the US from me, then add a bit for the bubble wrap, etc., and use that amount for the rate. It is posted right in the auction, so there is no question!

I have had this happen to me,I usually send an invoice for the amount of shipping I need which worked most of the time. The bad thing is you get charged another Paypal fee.But I ate that and went on.However I did have one woman try the pull the same thing as your buyer, and when I sent back the payment would you believe she then sent it again only that time with shipping charges included. And that was after I gave her a Neg for being such a smart butt.

JACKSWEBB

My advice would be to switch to flat rate shipping and don't worry about the zip code.

We charge a flat rate of $5.50 for up to 2 pounds.

I figured it out today after we mailed and it works out pretty well. Since we live on the west coast and a good portion of the country is zone 8. We lose $.25 on 2 pound packages shipped zone 8 but make a bit on 1 pound packages. It works out pretty much as it did before when we were charging shipping and handling.

Since he's a seller you can have a field day with his auctions if he negs you. There is nothing you can do to a buyer only. That is why many eBayers have a selling acount and a buying account.

I'd say,,,,,,Whiiiiiiiiiippppppp!!!! Sssssssssssssssnnnnnnnnnaaaaaaaapppppppppppppppp!!!!!!!!!
The tar out of anyone who has failed to contact E bay about the zip code thing Jack has been preaching on so hard. I am sick and tired of people not sending me a complete address!! And harping at them to send an address period. I want to know right away where this "winner" of mine wants his winnings sent to. If I could find a zip code right away it would save me a lot of time for doing,,,,,,,,other things,,,,,,,, I would rather be doing. Whiiiiiiiiiiiiipppppppp!!!!!!! Craaaaaaaack!!!

Jack, keep telling them about the zip code. I understand. It is sooooooooooooooo much fasssssster with a zip code. Then on to the next,,,,,,,,customer,,,, in line. I don't have all night! Many need to fulfil their dreams. Whiiiiirrrrriiiiiiiiippppp!!

Thank you all for your comments and suggestions. They were very helpful to say the least. Thought you all might like an update. I e-mailed him that I could not accept his PayPal payment because the unconfirmed address and because he had not included the shipping charge. I even surprised myself because I was very polite and civil in my wording. He e-mailed me back saying that he thought I had "taken this too seriously and was acting emotionally about it." He said he didn't give a dam about PayPal and their confirmed address nonsense. He said he knows where he lives and that is confirmation enough. He claims he had already mailed the payment with Media Rate shipping charges included. Interesting though...When he thought I would ship it for free he was insisting that I ship it only via Priority. I am not going to hold my breath on this one and I hope I never get the payment or hear from him again. He made it to my blocked bidder list pronto.

JACK, you are absolutely right on the money. My e-mail to E-Bay about this has already gone out. It is such a simple solution to this nightmare. Lets keep our fingers crossed that someone at E-Bay will be listening,

Many thanks again for all your help and support.

MAUDIT, YEA,ONE FOR THE GIPPER. THANKS. ONE FINAL WORD,,,,,,HAHAHAHHAHA, YEAH , RIGHT. THE BLOCK BIDDER LIST IS BEST USED IF YOU SMELL A RAT UP FRONT. I KNOW, I HAVE DONE THE SAME, BLOCKED A BIDDER AFTER THE SALE CAUSE IT WAS BAD IN SOME WAY. BUT THE LIKELYHOOD OF THEM COMING BACK IS NILL TO NONE. THEY CAN DO THE DAMAGE TO YOU NOW BECAUSE THEY, AFTER ALL ARE IN FACT THE HIGH BIDDER. WE CAN'T STOP WHATEVER THEY MAY WHIMSICALLY DO.(UNLESS YOU FEEL IT COMING AND BE RIGHT UP FRONT, YOU NEG ME,,,,I NEG YOU! HOPEFULLY YOU HAVE HUNDREDS AND THEY HAVE 3) SOME OF THE QUESTIONS, OR BETTER, LACK OF EDUCATED WRITING SKILLS I GET FROM THEM TIP ME OFF RIGHT AWAY, BAM!!!!!! BLOCK THE IDIOT. I KNOW FOR A FACT BEATING THEM TO THE PUNCH HAS SAVED ME MUCH GRIEF. NOW,,,,,,,,,I WILL,,,,,,,,,HAHAHHAHA, CARRY ON.

So far, in my small quantity of people I have tried it out on, every one is cool
So far not much over 30 bux so...well, I am a small potata learning to sprout!

Hi Jack

WHAT ABOUT 3.4.5.6.7.8.9 POUNDS?

You could have a fixed price for each weight if you wanted to. It's not that hard to do.

Even if Ebay did supply a zip code for each user as you are saying, there are still those out there that pay you or want to pay you faster than you could ever send out and EOA email. If you have a fixed price and put it in your auctions, you don't have to worry about that. It's easier..

It's ironic. I resisted switching to fixed rate shipping for so long. Now I wouldn't do it any other way.

I ACTUALLY WORK FOR MY CUSTOMERS. P.P. D.C., PRIORITY D.C., PRIORITY, INSURANCE, UPS. YA GONNA PUT ALL THOSE OPTIONS IN EVERY AUCTION? ONE ADVANTAGE OF MY EOA NOTIFICATION RIGHT NOW HOWEVER, WHEN ASKING THEM FOR THE ADDRESS IT SAYS PLEASE STATE WHETHER PAYING BY MONEY ORDER OR PAY PAL. Hmmm, NOT TO WORRY I WILL FIGURE AN ANGLE TO THAT ONE.

ALSO, ONE FAULT I SEE WITH THE INFORMATION ALREADY SUPPLIED. THEY REALLY HAVE NO REASON TO CONTACT YOU CORRECT? SO,,,,,,,YOU HAVE NO COMMUNICATION WITH THEM. ARE THEY SENDING PAYMENT? YOU HAVE NO IDEA. DID THEY ACTUALLY READ THAT INFORMATION? JUST MY THOUGHTS.

I KNOW FOR A VERY FACT MANY , MANY PEOPLE READ ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! I MEAN NOTHING. YOU HAVE TO LITTERALLY SHUVE YOUR REQUESTS DOWN THEIR THROAT. I AM SURE YOU HAVE HAD THESE.

KEEP THINKING THAT'S WHAT THIS IS ALL ABOUT, HOW TO MAKE IT WORK BETTER AND EASIER.

I think at least ebay should release the winning bidder's zipcode to the seller at the end of the auction.

You can also suggest this to ebay here:
