The other seller that filed a report emailed me a few minutes ago. She is willing to try to get the scammer also.

We are trying to come up with a way to make her life a misery.'

I have contacted the police department. Someone is supposed to call me later today. It is doubtful if they will be able to do anything since it has been so long. That is what the desk officer said.

Usually just lurk here, but I would like to express an opinion on this matter.
Good ideas for "getting even" have been suggested, but my advice is don't try them. Fraud in any way is fraud. You become the crook. And you become a new, easy case for the authorities. With a trail of your intentions(yeah, I can't be traced here, I use another name...sureeee). The crooks who did this to you years ago are the ones that will go to the police, demand satisfaction, and get results.Send the money back, contact ebay, and all the authorities if it makes you feel better, and move on. Consider the loss years ago as cost of doing business.Good luck

If 1998 is beyond the statute of limitation maybe her recent "leave on the porch" is an attempt at another scam that would interest the cops. If you can have them look into it eBay will send the police information they have on her userid. eBay just needs them to ask and doesn't need a court order. If they can link her real ID to her eBay ID there's at least some proof of fraud for the police. Good luck.

It doesn't happen often, but when it does, it's beautiful. I once had a customer cheat me of $100. Over ten years later, he calls me and needs my consulting services in an emergency. He didn't bring up the $100 and neither did I. I just raised my rates by $15 an hour, figuring he would need 10 or 20 hours. He ended up needing over 60 hours, so I got my $100 back with interest.

DO NOT accept a money order and send the wrong boots, change the picture, send kitty litter, and don't send nothing. It would be mail fraud, a federal offense. You don't sound like a criminal to me. Don't become one.

Report the new data to the police, notify Ebay, block her, and cut your losses and move on. Dwelling on how to get revenge is non-productive and will only hurt you in the long run.

Don't sell her the new boots. She'll figure out a way to ___ you either with a chargeback, file mail fraud charges of her own against you, or at least tie up your attention that is better spent elsewhere.

Good luck,
Patty

Do these cheaters go through life, feeding off the system, committing fraud and theft, hurting others, until they end up in a Medicaid bed and the nursing home staff say "Gee, what a cute little old lady, isn't she charming?" And justice is never done?

No, what usually happens is that their spawn decide not to wait for their inheritance and Granny Cheater has an "accident". Or they keep her on a diet of instant mashed potatos and beans.

Elder abuse is widespread. My bet is that the kids are just applying what they learned at the hands of their parents.

Here's a wee bit of what-comes-around-goes-around. The person who put this page up is a notorious eBay cheater/troublemaker who had to make her feedback private or no one would ever deal with her.

This is long. Here goes....

Earlier yesterday, the scammer emailed me from her WORK email. She wanted the boots "ASAP!".

I scanned the Police report, the Fedex shipping bill and all emails between us involving the transaction. I placed it all on one of my domains in a password protected directory. I used a domain that was not connected to the one she ordered from. I sent her a link and the password through the ebay system. To do this I used an account from years ago that is buying only.

The email I sent said:

Dear Miss XXXX,
This email is regarding auction number xxxxxx. You failed to return a pair of boots to me valued at $153.17. After numerous attempts to contact you I filed a complaint with your local police. If you visit the convenient link, I have included you will find copies of the police report, Fedex shipping bills, your emails to me and all other pertinent information involving the transaction.

The amount you currently owe is: $204.28. This amount includes shipping and auction fees. To clear up this matter without further police involvement. Please remit a bank cashiers check for the amount due within 3 business days to the address on the police report.

I used her maiden name in the email, hoping to keep her off guard for a little while longer. Well, she caught me off guard with her response.

Her Response:

I TOLD YOU, I WOULD SEND THE SHOES BACK TO YOU! I AM DEALING WITH A FAMILY EMERGENCY AND I WAS DELAYED WITH SHIPPING! A POLICE REPORT WAS UNCALLED FOR! THE SHOES WERE ONLY $64.00. YOU ARE A THIEF FOR TRYING TO CHARGE ME MORE! I HAVE HAD MY HUSBAND SHIP THEM TO YOU TODAY.

I HOPE YOU DON'T EVER GO THROUGH WHAT I AM GOING THROUGH RIGHT NOW.

GOD BLESS

She thought I was someone else! She must not have looked at the police report carefully. The fool emailed me from her work email again.

I responded with:

You have me confused with another seller. I suggest you read the police report again, carfully. Please remit the $204.28 in the time frame I have indicated in my previous email. NOTE: Have your bank place the police report number after my name on the cashiers check.

I will not get into a back in forth with you about this matter. Police reports are public record. If I do not have the amount you owe me by, March 4th 2003, I will leave the police report on the internet. I am sure your co-workers would like a link to it.

Her reponse:

You do not need to contact my collegues. This is between me and you. I honestly tried to return the boots. They were sent back to me. I will send you the cashiers check during my break. That will satisfy you? You will drop the charges?

I responded:

If I get my money there will be no need for further police involvement.

This morning she emailed me a priority mail tracking number. I will wait to see what is in the envelope. I should have it tomorrow.

This chick must scam on a regular basis. She has not even connected this to the order she placed on my website. She emailed me again this morning asking about her boot order.

Fluffy, do you mean the person ASKING for donations is the cheater, or one of the kids she is complaining about is the cheater?
Man, anyone could grab two random highschool photos and put up a page like that. I would be able to write a better sob story, though.
For instance, My GOOD daughter has been offered a scholarship to a private highschool. Even with the scolarship, though, the fees are going to strap us. But in my city the public schools are atrocious. This is my chance to give this child the academic career I didn't get. Anyone want to contribute to Camille's school fund?
Shopforshoes, we posted at the same time, I guess- Your new story is amazing!

I get the felling that this lady has scammed lots of people. Notice in her email to me she didn't mention a family emergency. She brought that up when she thought I was someone else.

I am amazed. I hope to hear from the other seller to see if she has gotten any results.

Yes. Her husband is just as bad.

They have at least nine eBay buyer IDs between them that I have been able to document. And, of course, they are all now blocked by all of MY seller IDs.

It has gotten so bad that I will no longer ship to a certain small town in Maine because it is invariably one of them. Their eBay IDs all have false contact information for the last name and phone number.

For a while she was contacting people who'd left me negs and urging them to harass me by email. Her stuff gets filtered to a folder I never ever read.

shop4shoes: You've got a real pro on your hands. Karma's gonna stomp her sooner or later.

If their ebay information is wrong why not report them to ebay and get them suspended.

logansdad: Because I don't know their REAL last names. I cannot prove that the last names they are using are false, except that they obviously are.

An example: The female uses the name of her ISP as her last name on one of her accounts. (Think of "Darlene Aol" and you'll get the idea.) On another account, the last name is the same as the street address they gave me. What are the odds that "Nicholas Mainstreet" actually lives on Main Street?

See what I mean?

Fluffy and shop4shoes could form the Justice League of eBay. Think of the nifty outfits you could wear!

You definitely remember the really bad characters... I've only had one attempt at a repeater cheater, and I nabbed her before EOA. The funny thing was she was bidding on the same user ID that I had used to neg her the last time (though her ID was different - I think she was NARU in the other one.) Her new ID (already racking up negs) was close enough to her old one for me to take a look and on investigation, it was clearly her.

I just canceled her bid and blocked her, only to get a completely clueless email from her asking why I'd "canselled" her bid. I emailed her back, asking "Are you Jane Doe?" and, stupid, stupid, stupid, she emails back "Yes! So now you see it is me and we can do this transaction."

I was tempted to send her a copy of all her profanity-filled emails from our previous run-in (she tried to negotiate a discount after the auction ended, and never did pay) but nobly resisted, and just said: "I'm sorry, I can't sell to you due to your bidder history. Please don't try to change your user ID and bid again because my computer will tell me it's you."

Apparently she believed me because I never heard back and we haven't crossed paths since. But if she shows up again, I want some superheroes to sic on her.

HEHEHE! MUHHAAAAHA! I GOT IT!

She sent the cashiers check. I even called the bank on it to see if it is legit. IT IS!

She included the following note.

Now that I have paid you please notify the police that you are dropping the charges against me. Thanks

She has been through this before. What a dumba**. There are no charges to drop...this time.

Fluffy I know you can not prove their last names are false, but do you know if there is something in their contact information that is false - like the phone number. If you have the phone number of these individuals and the phone numbers do not match the name and street address ebay can suspend them.
I have heard from people on this board where they have been suspended because they got a new phone number and never updated their contact information on ebay. Ebay later suspended them.
