Hi, all. Lately newbie buyers have been asking me what my "account name" is for Paypal so they can send me money that way.

Is it as simple as my e-mail address? I'm not sure I ever was given something called an account name by Paypal.

Now that the Paypal button isn't in the EOA notice they get from Ebay, some of them are lost.

(I don't use Vendio or Ebay checkout--is that the only way I can get that button back??)

That is what I have used.
Now if I can figure out how to confirm a paypal address without a credit card, I will be happy!

your only account name with Paypal is your email address.

I believe that when you sign up for automatice logos at Paypal, it will also put the Paypal button in your auctions.

What I do is in my WBN I say. If you wish to pay by PayPal my email address is [email protected].

My PayPal address is in the standard invoice...however, I get at least 20 queries a week from people who can't figure out who to send the money to.

Sounds like you're encountering the same "please do my reading for me" phenomenon.

Libra: Good idea. I'll add that to my EOA message (even though, LOL, the e-mail they get from me sure does have that address at the top, right??!)

Fluffy: I'm getting more and more questions--how large is this item, how many pages, color?, copyright date, etc. etc.--all of which are answered in my description. We are truly a nation of scanners and skimmers--and I think we ALL do that, don't we? My challenge is to constanstly be thinking of clearer ways to list the particulars so that potential buyers will actually SEE them!

Rarriffle: I signed up for automatic logos ages ago. I think I'll go into Paypal and check to see that they're still requested. Sigh.

I just looked at the Paypal settings, on their site. This is the message, and they seem to be saying, without actually putting it in words, that ONLY if you have eBay checkout will you have the button. Phooey.

"PayPal's Automatic Logo Insertion has been updated!

For U.S.-based listings, Automatic Logo Insertion will now insert PayPal into the eBay Checkout of all your active listings. With this preference set, your buyers can easily use PayPal to pay for purchases. You can activate or modify your settings for this feature on PayPal or through eBay's Checkout preferences.

Automatic Logo Insertion will no longer support Yahoo! Auctions and will not currently change for users outside of the United States. Users outside of the U.S. will have logos automatically inserted into eBay listings and not eBay Checkout."

If you want to bypass the eBay checkout, you might want to consider using the eBay invoice. It provides a "pay now" button. You can see the zip-code of the buyer when you prepare the invoice so you can determine the shipping at that time. Once you set it up, the buyer can easily reference the total when they click on the item number. The eBay invoice combined multiple purchases too ... I am a convert and now send an eBay invoice (now that I know PP WBN are not reliable).

I state in my TOS that if you pay with P/P use my email address"XXXXXX" It saves a lot of confusion & I get paid quickly.

Neglus: Do you take the time to fill out an Ebay invoice for every sale? Seems to me it would take a great deal more time than it should. Because every item I sell is in a different category, with different shipping prices, I can't do one that will fit all situations.

I don't have to fill anything out - everything is all there - address etc. all you have to do is plug in the shipping amount and send. I personalize with a message in the message section and then copy and paste it into every one...I work right from "My Ebay", click send invoice - doesnt take much time at all. ( and i have sold about 700 items this last month)

You have to compute and send the buyer the shipping cost at some time I assume (mine are basically the same except International sales)- I use this in lieu of a WBN. I'd prefer to have this automated but I have learned you cant trust PayPal and Vendio will not send WBN without checkout.

I always thought it was stupid for Paypal to have the PayPal name or id be an email address. That must confuse the heck of of everyone until they learn the system.

Neglus: Thanks for the suggestion about sending an Ebay invoice. (How I wish I'd gotten your e-mail address so I didn't have to show how ignorant I am in front of some of these folks! But I'm willing to humble myself now.)

I went to My Ebay page and cannot find a "send invoice" to save my life! I searched up and down, high and low. What I have on that page are two lists--one of things I sold Sunday night, one of things that will end this coming Sunday night. At the top of the page there are columns; one column says "next steps/status" but I can't click on it. Is that where I'd send an invoice after auction is over, and is it only activated for a short period right after the auction ends?

Of course, I've already manually sent EOA messages to all those buyers. But I really want to try your method.

Roadsmith I'll help anytime you need it....your not ignorant, you just haven't been taught yet ...there us a big difference.
Click My Ebay...Then Click Selling ....scroll through items you have for sell now to Item's I've Sold (you can change shows items for past 2 days to 30 days and hit save) It should show you all the items you have sold for the past 30 days at this point...at the end of each of these it should have a big gray button that says SEND INVOICE. Hope this helps if not just keep asking till I have helped

Road..sorry for delay was out driving in the snow - my favorite thing to do NOT!

Under your "sold" items in "My Ebay", under the column where it says: "Next step/status" ,you should have a grey button (otherwise it will say "paid" or "payment status"..click on the gray button and it will take you to the invoice.

Toasted and Neglus: I appreciate your trying to help! Still no gray button anywhere. I've copied and will paste in a sample of what my sold items list looks like (note that there is a line (--) in the column you're referring to, and a few Paypal paid notices, and that's all!)

Well, never mind. The columns just don't show as columns so you can't see what I've referring to.

Is it at all possible that somewhere in preferences I've said I don't want that gray button? This is crazy-making!

Hi, Toasted: I might have found an answer--not sure. (See what I've copied and pasted, below). But I do not use Vendio checkout, unless the fact that I list through Vendio eliminates the chance of using the Ebay Invoice. Here's the information and my questions are, is this talking about Ebay checkout or Ebay invoices? I don't want the invoice procedure. And I don't want the PayPal invoicing either. Some of this, below, looks like Ebay's cute ways to hook me into those.

Ok it's looking like it's maybe something at Vendio you have set in your Preferences ...I keeps seeing check with your third party checkout ...http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/checkout_tutorial.html I don't use vendio so I have no clue where to tell you to look

Beats me! I do use Vendio but don't use VD checkout - not sure how come I get a gray button and you don't!!

In that column that says:"Next Steps/Status" what do you show? Mine says "send invoice" or "paid" or "payment status" or "invoice sent".

As an alternative, you can just click on the auction and in the upper left corner is a "send invoice" button and it does the same thing..or maybe if you turn off eBay checkout, you don't get one there either?

In the column headed Next Steps/Status, the only mark is this: --

Except for Paypal payments, which appear in that column like this: Paid PP

I've looked at Toasted's link and there's nothing about just sending an invoice.

I've looked at my Ebay preferences in my vendio account page, and see nothing that will help.

There is no Send Invoice button in top left corner of my completed auctions.

Gad. I think the Ebay Devils have got me!
