I got my call from Paypal today also! I get all my money back as well. That is the last time I buy 37 ea. game units from someone I don't know to turn around and sell to desperate parents on EBay a week before Christmas. Well until next year when the XBox and Gamecube come out anyway.....hehehe. >

Nintendo and Microsoft probably won't be as retarded as Sony when it comes to marketing their machines and meeting demand. They probably learned from Sony's mistakes.

You are correct. But with Ebay and the wonderous prepay for your XBox and be the first on your block to get it I will be fetching a grand for the stupid thing from spoiled kids who can pay regular prices at the store the same day! LOL I love America!

"Spoiled kids" is definitely the right term to describe customers of expensive toys.

This 'just in' from the police department conducting the investigation on GameTek. It's an update on their website.

12-18-00 1730 hrs (Update)
On Friday, 12-15-00, the Santa Clara County District Attorney's office authorized money to be returned to those who paid via PayPal. PayPal is currently working on a process to deal with the refunds. They should have it in place in a few days. If you paid using PayPal, they will contact you directly. As for those people who paid via check or money order, you will have to wait awhile until this case is adjudicated as accounts can not be accessed by law enforcement until that time.

This is good news. Maybe we ALL can get our money back. I certainly hope so, for my totally unspoiled son's sake... who wanted a PlayStation 2 badly enough to work for and save enough money to buy one. (I didn't hire him or contribute one single cent.)

ALL children with expensive toys are not spoiled.

Not that I wish ill on anyone---but it is nice to see that a few scalpers got scammed on this too.

igotgame---I guess you thought you'd be rolling in triple/quadruple your investment around now----but instead somebody else had your money tied up until today--not much you can do with this season.

I know we are all in this auction business to make a buck--but the scalping of hard to find kids toys just turns me off. It's only worth the inflated price for a few weeks before Christmas---and then plumments. Elmo, Cabbage Patch, Beanie Babies, Furby....the kid's head will not explode if the toy they want is not there.

Parents just have learn to not pay to inflated prices--which all of you parents hoped you were doing by buying from Gametek at almost retail.

I find it amazing that I get warned for using a little harsh language (no cursing, just sarcasm) to correct people using these threads to try and sell playstations. Yet you allow some idiot like tutam to taunt and say whatever comes in his pea brain. He has been nothing but anatagonist since this whole thing started but you allow him to continue. In fact, you can tell by his name he came into these threads acting like he was the owner of gametek. Get this moron out of here.

WELL, I MUST SAY THAT I FEEL EXTREMELY BAD FOR ALL OF YOU WHO GOT TAKEN BY PS2-CART, HOWEVER DID YOU EVER STOP AND THINK? WHY IS THIS COMPANY OFFERING AN ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO GET SYSTEM, FOR SUCH A SMALL PROFIT? @ $400-$450 PER SYSTEM THEY WOULD STILL HAVE SOLD THOUSANDS! IF THEY WERE A TRULY LEGITAMATE SECONDARY RETAILER, THERE IS NO WAY THEY MEANT TO SHIP OUT A SINGLE PS2 UNLESS IT WAS JUST AN EMPTY BOX. TO BOOT, I LAUGH AT THE DING DONGS THAT ACTUALLY THOUGHT THEY WOULD GET A FREE PS2 FOR EVERY 10 ORDERS THEY REFERED. LOL, LOL, LOL!!! AS IF SELLING A PS2 REQUIRED ASSISTANCE! IN ADDITION, I WAS THE FIRST PERSON WHO CONTACTED PAYPAL AND NOTIFIED THEM OF THIS SCAM! WITHIN 2 DAYS, GAMETEKS ACCOUNT WAS FROZEN. I SAVED PAYPAL A LOT OF MONEY!!!
HOPEFULLY EVERYONE OR AT LEAST MANY WILL GET THEIR MONEY BACK. IN THE FUTURE, REMEMBER IF IT LOOKS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, IT MOST LIKE IS! IN THIS CASE, IT WASN'T A POSSIBILITY BUT A CERTAINTY. HOW OBVIOUS!!!

Zazzie,
For your info Gametek is not the only place I ordered Playstation 2's. I deposited for 85 Playstations all across the St. Louis Area and had these on ebay beginning the week before the Playstation 2 release. These sold for an average $805.00 a piece. I picked up another 19 using PS2Finder and Shop Bot and those have sold for an average $545 a piece. So that is I have netted over $46000 and cleared $30,000 after taxes. So that fact that Gametek held on to some cash for about 7 weeks isn't that big of a deal. I still have $30,000 in my pocket that 2 months from now I wouldn't have had if I sold them then. Supply and Demand baby! I love economics.

Why do you think Paypal is lying to us. The freakin' Police department in California knows that Paypal is giving refunds but their own customer service staff does not. They feed more counter-information than the military.

You guys need to relax. Hammer, it does not say that the Santa Clara police know that paypal is giving refunds, it says that they have authorized Paypal to START giving refunds. Like was stated earlier in other threads, the money is tied up while there is an investigation.

Again I say, why didn't all you people who want to do CC chargebacks pay with your credit cards straight out rather than through Paypal. I'll tell you why because you knew, like me, that this place was shady and you wanted some protection. If you don't like the rules that PP has stated then you don't need to use them.

If law enforcement is involved do you really think PP is going to keep your money illegaly?

Well, I filled out the buyer protection claim on dec. 2. Got a reply on dec 8 stating that they didn't know what my question was and to contact the seller. Typical. So I start calling to make sure they even got my claim. I called and called, everytime they said they couldn't tell if I had sent one in but if I did it would have been sent to the correct dept. So, I asked them since your telling me that you don't know if I submitted a claim or not, you can not answer my question then. They said correct, that they couldn't tell me if I had submitted a claim or not. She said it all goes to a different department. I send them more emails asking about if I have a claim number to go by or anything and they never respond. 2 weeks pass and I'm fed up. I call and raise some hell. They say that they are going to put me on a 48 hour callback and they would escalate the call. Well, I get home after the first 24 hours and my account is restricted. I call in and they don't know why it is. She asks for a call back number. Finally she calls back and said it was done by mistake and it would be corrected that night. Still no answer on my claim. She said since they couldn't tell if I had filled a claim or not she would email me another claim. I wake up the next morning and what do you know....my account is restricted again. Had to call back in and get it fixed. She didn't email the claim form. I call in tonight and talk to a "manager" and he did say they had received the claim but he couldn't tell me anything about it since it is in a diff. department. He said someone should be in contact with me. I told him that is what you guys have been telling me all this time and I haven't received anything. These guys are terrible. I'm still waiting on the callback and an email but I'm sure they will not follow through. They don't know what the hell is going on over there.

Hey i just found this site i just wanted to tell any one that if you were scamed by GameTek (there is between 2500-3000 victims) You need to fill out the form on the Fountain Valley Police page. I think the site is www.fountainvalley.org/gametek/ if thats not right search it. The people that paid through paypal have gotten or will get their money back but the others that paid (like me) with a money order or cashiers check will have to wait till the investaigation is over and the free up the bank accounts. Check out the page its all there.

cornholed - I can only hope you are right, because of a couple of things. First, let me say that it would be 'ideal' for people to come back here and say, "I was wrong."
Of course, however 'ideal' that is, it probably won't happen. Now, let me ask you, are you coming back anytime soon to say that you were wrong? My wife ordered a ps2 about a month ago, guaranteed (of course) to be at our house by Dec. 15th. It's one of my Christmas presents. Well - hold on, checking to see what day this is..... - OH, it's the 20th!!! Hmm, I'm just hoping she doesn't get scammed, because I will be heading to that part of California in the near future here, and I will personally go into the store and demand they return her money, provide a free game (considering that she will ever get the ps2), or stop filling fraudulent orders that they can never possibly ship.
Sure, we can all be optimistic about this, or we can be realistic.
By the way, do you work there?

You haven't been reading. PS2cart.com WAS a scam, the guys have been arrested, if you go there to demand something, you won't even find an office - it doesn't exist. Fill out the police report NOW!

Nails I just read what Cornholed said and I dont see anywhere where he was wrong. All that guy said was that there is no reason to fuss because it is a month until delivery date. If you cant even read things correctly know wonder you are in such a fix with the Playstation mess. It doesn't appear that you are the smartest one on the block. And Cornholed wont be coming back to say he was wrong because he worked at Gametek and has been arrested so it is a little hard for him to get to a computer right now I imagine.

The owner of GAMETEK has been contacted and interviewed. No arrest has been made at this time. The investigation is continuing.

12-11-00 0800 hrs (Update)
Sorry, not much to update at this time. This type of investigation can take a considerable amount of time to complete, as certain records that are needed take several weeks to obtain. Be assured that everything that can be done is being done to bring this investigation to a successful conclusion.

The question being asked most is, "Am I going to get my money back?" Several bank accounts belonging to GAMETEK have been frozen. When this investigation is complete, it is likely that you will receive a refund of your money, whether full or partial. Due to the amount of time this type of investigation takes, it is unknown when refunds will be made.
