there is a north american boycott going to happen on may 19, where everyone
if possible will boycott buying gas on may 19..
the logic behind this is...

IT HAS BEEN CALCULATED THAT IF EVERYONE IN THE UNITED STATES & CANADA DID
NOT PURCHASE A DROP OF GASOLINE FOR ONE DAY AND ALL AT THE SAME TIME, THE
OIL COMPANIES WOULD CHOKE ON THEIR STOCKPILES.

AT THE SAME TIME IT WOULD HIT THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY WITH A NET LOSS OF OVER
5.6 BILLION DOLLARS WHICH AFFECTS THE BOTTOM LINES OF THE OIL COMPANIES.

THEREFORE MAY 19TH HAS BEEN FORMALLY DECLARED "STICK IT UP THEIR behinds "
DAY AND THE PEOPLE OF THESE TWO NATIONS SHOULD NOT BUY A SINGLE DROP OF
GASOLINE THAT DAY.

THE ONLY WAY THIS CAN BE DONE IS IF YOU FORWARD THIS E-MAIL TO AS MANY
PEOPLE AS YOU CAN AND AS QUICKLY AS YOU CAN TO GET THE WORD OUT.

WAITING ON OUR RESPECTIVE ADMIINSTRATIONS TO STEP IN AND CONTROL THE PRICES
IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REDUCTION AND CONTROL IN PRICES
THAT THE ARAB NATIONS PROMISED TWO WEEKS AGO?

REMEMBER ONE THING, NOT ONLY IS THE PRICE OF GASOLINE GOING UP BUT AT THE
SAME TIME AIRLINES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES, TRUCKING COMPANIES ARE
FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES WHICH EFFECTS PRICES ON EVERYTHING THAT IS
SHIPPED. THINGS LIKE FOOD, CLOTHING, BUILDING MATERIALS, MEDICAL SUPPLIES
ETC. WHO PAYS IN THE END? WE DO!

WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. IF THEY DON'T GET THE MESSAGE AFTER ONE DAY,WE
WILL DO IT AGAIN AND AGAIN. SO DO YOUR PART AND SPREAD THE WORD. FORWARD
THIS EMAIL TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW. MARK YOUR CALENDARS AND MAKE MAY 19TH A DAY
THAT THE CITIZENS OF THE UNITED STATES & CANADA SAY "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH"

This was on a different forum and someone that works at a gas station posted. They said they only get their tanks filled every other month so the oil companies wouldn't even notice.(unless no one bought gas for a month or more)

Now I know why we shipped Paul Majors out of here to LA LA land.

I will support the boycott. But then again, I filled up yesterday and won't need to fill up again till the weekend.

Support the boycott. They don't want customers in the stations on the 19th anyway. They will be busy changing the prices on the pumps and signs to reflect the 10 cent per gallon increase that they have planned for the 20th.

Here's an interesting article that tells you the prices of gas in different areas so that if you're planning a eBay trip, you can plan your route according to gasoline prices:

http://www.gasbuddy.com/

I feel your pain, Jack. I may be pulling out the old bicycle and using that to go to garage sales and estate sales. Just have to figure out how I'm going to haul the stuff home!

Cheryl you will need a bike that has wire saddle bags on each side of the back wheel. But please don't try to carry furniture on your back.

Jack are deisel fuel is only $1.77 a gallon but the other stuff is rather high. Then we have reformulated gas, bad ozone here, and it seems that everyday we could go to the gas pumps as it just sucks it up.

Good time to clean out the eBay rooms and get ready for the Christmas Rush.

To early in the morning.

i believe the premiss of this story is to create a mindset attitude to try and get small towns, communities in north america to boycott on certain days of the week and buy less gas for the rest of the week, i studied this and i know it seems crazy to think you will affect oil companies in anyway, but i do believe when oil companies start noticing less revenue , then someone will do something

suppose a whole town boycotted a store in that town, on a one day a week basis, take that and mulitiply it 52 times, i'd say profits would be down for that store dramanically, and suppose you started to buy less at the store and or found a better cheaper, altenative product to the products that store sold , then what happens to the store, it will either do something to attract back it's customers or go belly up....

botton line is this story is looking for a SOLUTION to the ever increasing prices of fuel....so start thinking and look on the positive side, there is big bucks to be made in alternative energy products, .....

i believe it could work, town by town, .....

Every customer interviewed on the news says that the price is ridiculous...as they sit in line to buy more of the product at this new, higher price.

World-wide demand for this product is still growing, it is a finite resource, and yet we want the price to remain low, as if we have some divine right. But boy, don't we love people bidding up the price of merchandise when we are selling!

A one day boycott is stupid. Imagine in Alabama if the bus boycott lasted one day, we might still have segregated lunch counters...Everyone will be back the next day.

We have a LOT to do with the oil prices. First, while I am not a fan of government regulation, the oil companies just have too much power. The get the resources, refine it, and then sell it. That just isn't right. If the government could bust ma bell, they should bust the oil monopoly.

That being said, the other problems are that we won't drill for oil in Alaska, which is basically pretty stupid. Nobody is up there. We also should have a national fuel standard so gas in California is the same as gas in Arizona. Making special blends for different states drive up the prices. Finally, we should look into ways to give more incentives to those who use hybrid, alternative, or high efficiency fuel engines.

That, my friends, is how we will solve this problem. I'll get attacked by the left and the right, but this really isn't a political issue. I see $4 a gallon before we address ANY of these issues.
Friends don't let Friends say stupid things like Friends don't let friends vote Republican!

But boy, don't we love people bidding up the price of merchandise when we are selling!

While that is true, most of us (probably nearly all of us) are not selling the necessities of life.

I have an office one mile from my house. I can walk to it, carrying what I need in a backpack.

However, high gas prices affect many other things I cannot control, such as shipping rates and the cost of food (which, needless to say, IS a necessity).

I have 3/4 tank of gas in my car, and 1 1/2 tanks in the truck. I'm not boycotting buying gas on May 19, I'm boycotting it for as long as I possibly can. I think that if everyone does as much as they can in this vein, someone's going to notice.

If not, well, you can expect gas to hit $3/gallon before the election.

Fluffy is exactly right. One day will not do it. People will get gas either the day before or the day after. Gasoline is up to $41.85 a barrel (the last I looked). Bush and company refuse to tap into the reserve. They have us over a barrel (no pun intended). Costs will have to be passed on the our customer by rising shipping costs. It won't be long before everyone is raising prices everywhere because we are so dependant on oil.

Since the beginning of the year, gas prices have risen with breathtaking speed, averaging $1.85 for regular on Wednesday. That's an increase of 33 cents over last year and an extra $6.60 on a 20-gallon fill-up.

In some states, pump prices average as much as $2.20 a gallon. And to top it off, gasoline prices have yet to reach their highest for the year, with the traditional summer driving season not set to start until Memorial Day weekend later this month, the U.S. Energy Information Administration has said.

Jack

Diesel is cheaper here than regular gasoline. Isn't that odd?

And for Pandorasbox

This thread IS eBay related. The cost of gasoline affects what it costs us to do our eBay business. It costs more to scour garage sales and flea markets. It won't be long before the USPS, FedX and UPS raise their prices because of this. The cost will be passed onto us and in turn will be passed onto our customers.

In this country, we are (in general) not crazy about making conservation efforts (yes, I include myself in this group). Oil prices over the long haul will only go up in response to increasing world-wide demand (and we have known this for years). We have built our country around the automobile, we like it that way, and we will simply have to pay for it. Drill Alaska? Sure, why not. That will buy us a few years. Then we'll find the miracle oil supply in ..uh.. somewhere, I guess.
During the oil crisis of the 70's, it wasn't the price that forced people into smaller cars and conservation as much as the availability. I doubt you will see much real, voluntary conservation until it hits 4.00 a gallon. There will be involuntary conservation by those who cannot afford it; this will free up supplies for the rest.
Will this hurt or help eBay? Sure, shipping goes up, but don't forget, that UPS/USPS truck is on the street whether there is one package or one hundred in it. Might be more cost effective for more retailing to move on-line.

I just wanna say this,,,all us little people in our cars,,,we really are nothing. Now when the AIRLINES and the RAILROADS and ALL the Other BIG BOYS announce a one day boycott Someone in Washington is going to do Something.

Ocean Ships.
Bus Companies.
Freight haulers.
Etc. Think HUGE consumers.
Manufactures
UPS and others have fleets of Cargo Jets.

I am talking BIG consumers of the product.
One Commercial Airliner to Hawaii most likely eats MORE fuel on that trip that most of us use in a lifetime. Now that's consumption.

Those Companies,,, have the POWER to make REAL statements,,,, that WILL be heard.

When those folks organize a boycott,,,things WILL happen(now do they care? or just UP the prices?)

2 cents.

and the beat goes on,,,,,,,Have another 2 Buck Chuck.

The price of gas sure isn't slowing drivers down any...they can't wait to pass me at 90 to get to the gas station so they can fill up and waste some more gas.
