After having 2 Airmail packages take over 4 weeks to get to Canada, I'm done using it for small items. It was a total PIA. I've never had a Global Priority package get lost or take that long.

I had a Global package take a month to get to Great Britain, still haven't figured that one out. I ship to this customer every month. It usually gets there right away.

LoL Tom!!
Classic, I do ask beforehand about shipping but have no way of knowing if what they quote is correct. I don't mind paying s&h but when it adds up to $30.00 extra I paid on 4 packages, I'm miffed. If I buy a sweater that costs me $20.00 and I'm quoted $11.00 for shipping which seems really high, and the shipping is $3.50, should I just assume the $7.50 is handling? What's the extra $7.50 I paid for? Why is it such a secret? Why can't some sellers tell you what the extra charges are for up front?
To be fair, before December, I didn't have much of a problem. It's just a string of these lately.

LOL Cheryl - You should have just said "Canada". I can ship a package to BC and another to Australia and 9 times out of 10 the Aussie gets their package first.

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

Kraft-it doesnt matter what the actually shipping is-if they tell you up front what the shipping and handling charges are and you bid and agree to their terms you have no complaint.
They might have to buy the boxes and bubble wrap or what they wrap in it-plus their time and gas to go to the post office. When I first came on Ebay,I was buying mostly videos. They charged me around $4.00 to ship and then they would ship it media for $1.42.At first I was miffed by this, but as time when on,I got over it and now I dont even look at what it cost to ship.In fact most people ship videos media, and still charge the first class rate.I realize this and when I bid, and this is something I live with.If you think the shipping is too high, dont bid. Also I do look at what they charge before I bid and some people will charge exhorbant fees,so I dont bid-its totally up to you what you want to pay.
Fenix-the postal system in Canada is notoriously slow-one of the worst on the planet and I always advise anyone I ship to it could take up to a month to get it.

Fenix, are you knocking our dog sled postal system?
Classic, I realize it's my fault for not understanding the U.S. postal rates, and no, I would never neg a person for something like this. And no, I don't mind paying handling but I feel I've been overcharged with these last packages - like I'm paying a penalty charge for buying. I'll get over it.

I agree with Classic. The cost of the sweater was $31. It is up to the buyer to decide if what they are buying is worth the cost. If not they shouldn't bid.
The actual cost of postage has absolutely nothing to do with it. If the seller is charging too much for shipping and no one bids he will either lower the shipping or quit selling. But he has no obligation to explain his prices or give the buyer a breakdown on his expenses. After the bid is placed he shouldn't even be questioned about it.
The only exception I see to this is when the opening bid is 1 cent or 99 cents and the postage for a 2 oz item is $10. Then the seller should be turned in for fee avoidance. But even then, if you bid on it you should not complain.
Be kind. Everyone is fighting their own secret battles.
