I just saw Hannibal -- and it wasn't scary! Where's the suspense? It was just gory. There was only one part in it where I jumped, and I never had to hide my eyes because I knew something was gonna happen but I didn't know what.
I thought the plot was pretty ridiculous, too (I didn't read the book). The only good part was that Jodie Foster wasn't in there -- her acting ability consists of being a good teeth-clencher. Moore wasn't much better, but at least she was a little better.
I guess here in the Midwest we don't have much of a sense of humor -- in the particularly bad part, the audience was moaning and gagging rather than laughing.
I thought it was a typical case of a sequel being a very disappointing reflection of the original -- I think I'll go see "Miss Congeniality" again.

Silence of the Lambs was an excellent movie, but I've only seen it once and I will never ever watch it again. It frightened me and the thought of it still does. Things like "Freddy Krueger" I dont like but could feasibly watch because they are not realistic. The kidnapping and murder, the keeping the woman in the wel, that sort of stuff in "SOTL" could be real and it scares me that there could be some sicko in society try and play that out. I'm sure if I had thicker skin "Hannibal" would be great to see but I'll stick with my romantic and comedic movies
BTW, I watched "Bring It On" last night (Cheerleading storyline) and it was GREAT. I was a competitive cheerleader in high school and it was awesome to see a movie completely devoted to it! A little unrealistic at times but hey, it was good enough to own (for me!)

She's baaaaack.
Who cares if the plot was weak...
The music was glorious. And, appropriate not only for our favorite classy villain, but the beautiful cinematography.
Hopkins does indeed play the madman Hannibal as a sane man. That's what makes Hannibal so scary. Hopkins is one of the best at this kind of performance.
Gary Oldman was just plain delicious. He never disappoints me.
It doesn't compare to "Silence..." for having you on the edge of your seat. But, worth the price. I was entertained.
Hannibal can cook me dinner anytime; however, I will make up the menu.

Welcome back, Spaz.
I read not too long ago that movie attendance has diminished greatly and the big chains are closing many theaters.
So, I think the movie-going public is not as gullible as you might think.
Personally, this movie buff is very selective on which movie gets her time and money.
I so badly want to see "Shadow of the Vampire", but I doubt if we'll get it at our theaters and driving to the city by myself for a movie doesn't interest me.

I would love to have a movie buddy. I like matinees, so we could do lunch first.
It goes against my nature to not critique a movie upon exit. Especially if it was a good one.
My husband gave them up long ago (won't even watch them on TV), and my movie-buddy daughter has been out of state since first leaving for college 10 years ago.
Willem Dafoe was on The Today Show a while back talking about this movie. Have been anticipating seeing him as Nosferatu ever since. We very rarely get the art movies at our theaters. Pity.

Hey Spaz --
Welcome back! Sorry to disappoint. I think my desire to see Hannibal was ignited by the hopes that it wouldn't follow the book so much, plus, admittedly, my interest was piqued by all the hype.

lol, spaz. Always good to see you up close.
I'm not a great movie buff so I won't interrupt your conversation now. See you later.

Speaking of Spaz, did you guys ever see that Bill Murray camp movie "Meatballs", with the character "Spaz" whose glasses were taped in the middle of the bridge? And during the egg race, they all chanted "Spaz, Spaz, Spaz". Then he won the race. It was just TOO exciting.
