Your bidder is trying to find out what your cost is?
He found out it is 499.99 and now he knows,he wlll come back and bid 525,allowing you a 25 dollars gross profit.

"How many bidders will do a BIN at 850 when they see a starting bid of 99 cents?"

It only takes one, and that one would be someone for whom the utility of the item exceeds 850 by a margin sufficient to offset their desire to get it for less but at some risk that they won't win the auction.

I used to start items at $1 (or $9.95) and get requests for BINs of all sizes, usually 30-50% less than the item sold for, but still in the multiple hundreds.

I used to start an item at 9.99 and it gets bidded up to 750 dollars, but those days are gone.
None of my item is food or medicine or soothe the soul.

hwahwa, I don't want to differ with you but those days are still here, that's if you have the right item to offer.

If yours/mine or anyones items are easy to find then don't expect to have a bidding war. But if you have the right item the war still happens.

It is happening to me right now. I'm offering what is hard to find and very much sort after, but how often does that happen? Not often enough.

BIN is mostly about convenience, instant gratification, and piece of mind knowing it is yours and nobody, not even a last second sniper is going to get it.

I've had many people jump at a chance to pay $500+ for an item that starts at 99 cents... in fact, I just sold another guitar amp that I bought on the same day for another $20 that sold for $350 with buy it now... just an hour or so after listing. Ironically, the same amp through other sellers had only hit the $250 range. It is all about marketing your product in a way that may grab someone's attention. Some people like auctions, some people like instant gratification. Who am I to decide? So I offer something to both. I win some I lose some that way, but it works for me.

Ok... I emailed the bidder and requested he retracted his bids (that way it shows up on his history), but I can't find where I see how many bid retractions he has had.

I'm still going to report him to ebay though.

Go to his feedback page, click on 'feedback as a buyer" and his retractions will be noted on the left side at the top of the list.

Or, if you are signed out of your seller account or want to investigate a bidder on someone else's listing, you can click on his masked ID and it shows there as well.

Ebay is not interested in helping the seller.
Ebay only wants to make Ebay a safe community and sellers are just some sort of misfits, vampires, flesheaters ,gravediggers, serial killers and rapists,a disgrace to the community.
So a bidder who is an upright community member comes along and retract his bids,it is all done in good taste,he means no harm to the community.
