I've got some auctions ready to launch Sunday and was just re-considering and wondering if tons of eBay bidders will be glued to the TV watching the Olympics? Are you cutting back your auctions for the next 2 weeks?

That had not occurred to me.
Maybe more women will be bidding as their husband are glued to the TV? Who knows. Good question.

On the other hand, it could be like our household, where the women are watching the olympics, and maybe the men bidding!

I'm with Fluff on this one - to me they are a non-issue. The only interesting thing about it this year is the controversy over it being held in China. I have a feeling the ratings will be quite low. I don't know of anyone who plans on watching.

I guess the reason I asked is that I'll be one of those avid Olympics watehers who will watch practically every event televised. So, wondered how many more like me there are...Your comments are encouraging (from an eBay selling standpoint) so guess I'll keep the auctions on and launch away! Thanks...

what happened to the guy that used to post here that attended all the Olympic games to buy, sell and trade pins to sell on Ebay? Who was that? He met Katy Couric once.

I was wondering the other day if he was at Beijing or not.

The Olympics this go-round is nothing more than a carefully orchestrated farce to try to convince the world that the Communist Chinese are deserving of respect from freedom-loving peoples everywhere.

Whereas anyone with half a brain knows they are more dangerous to us now then they've ever been. I am hoping many Americans will skip the television coverage and enjoy our nice weather instead.

The ridiculous city in which I live is having a party to celebrate the opening ceremonies. I swear our local numbnuts politicians live in cloud cuckooland.

Same here, glassgrl...I'm in awe of what humans can do when they put their minds to it...no matter what the world situation might be, I think we should always make room for wonder, awe and beauty.

Dejapooh, please give us an update if you are at the games. I love the events, but won't watch them live.

An estimated 1.5 million Chinese have been evicted from their homes to bring you this glorious spectacle.

Yeah, it's amazing what humans can do when they put their minds to it.

"numnuts" LOL
Did you see the pic of the smog in Beijing? Kicking folks to the curb to build their Bird Nest without any type of compensation. China has reckless disregard for its people and the environment.

What scares the crap out of me is that they are launching our satellites and making our weapons. Who is at the wheel in this country??

I am not watching the Olympics and I TRY like heck not to buy Chinese products which in itself is a challenge.

Well, It has always been my feeling that the Winter Olympics are far more widely watched on TV.
I rarely watch the Summer Olympics except maybe the Diving if I happen across it.

I know I sit glued to the Figure Skating and several other events in the Winters.
Lived in Calgary and saw the 1988 skating live but when in Vancouver in 2010 it will be waaaaaayyyy to expensive.

Hi all,

Yep, Live from Beijing, it's sunday Sunday Evening. I've been struck by a hellish heat rash (blisters and everything). I took the day off (sent the kids out with mommy to do the pin trading gig).

Overall, the trading is not bad, but I have no access this time. I made enough renting apartments to friends that I didn't have to pay for my apartment, so all I have to do is make my plane tickets and be home free.

I have tickets to events (thanks to a partner who was able to BIN a group of 3 tickets to each of 13 events... we sold 3 events and paid for the lot). I have pins (I think I may have to leave some behind, since they reduced the amount you can carry with you). Now, if I can just get out of the house without severe pain, I will be all right.

My birthday is Aug 8, so we went to the great wall for my Birthday, and then sat in a dark apartment and watched the opening ceremonies on TV. The best part was whenever Fireworks went off, we all turned to the window and watched them live, about a mile away.

If you want to see my interview on the today show from Torino, you can search You Tube for Dejapooh and watch me in my glorious pinkness (BTW, wife and kids are in pink this time too!).

What a great experience for you and for the children...may I ask their ages?

Are you finding the smog bothersome? It looks pretty awful but we all know what a 'spin' the media can put on these things. I would rather hear from our very own 'Family on the Spot'.

Hope for healing of the heat rash so you can get out soon!

The Olympics may help. If people actually watch, there is a good chance that they will watch while sitting at their computers. And if they are at their computers, good chance that they could end up on ebay.

China hosting the Olympics, the choice of the IOC over Toronto. Yes, probably a bad choice, but it's done, blame them.

I don't plan on missing a minute, never have. I want to see the athelets compete that's what it's all about so for 16 days I'll be watching. For me it's about the atheletes, not the host.

The opening ceremonies were nothing short of spectacular, Seven years planning & 180.000.000, it shows & was anticipated, then 46.000.000 to host the Olympics.
For sure a huge amount of the money came from goods sold in the USA. The more they send the more we buy, like it or not, almost impossible not to.

I see the Bush family has no problem with China hosting. Looks like they're having a good old time.

Good news, I don't have a heat rash. Bad news, I have Shingles. Very painful.

My twins are 8, and draw a lot of attention dressed in their pinks. My daughter draws a lot of attractions no matter where she is (she has a voice like a fog horn). Overall, they are having a great time.

Smog is not anywhere near as bad as it was in March. There is a lot of water vapor in the air which makes it difficult to see, but the smog is really not too bad. Now that the rain has cleared, I can clearly see the birds nest from my window.

I went to boxing yesterday, but could only last 2 bouts before going to the first aid station and being sent by ambulance to the hospital. 3 doctors, a box of eastern and western medicines, and an hour long treatment with a sadist with a needle who thought I should not have any blisters... I had to pay cash, but it was less than parking at a beverly hills doctors office, so not all is bad.

I'm with you McJane, I love watching the olympics. I think it is great to see the mostly young people forgetting that their countries are against each other, and having a spirit of comraderie as they compete. We have about 20 hours a day coverage here in Canada, so I just stick a tape in my VCR, and then watch the sports I am interested in like gymnastics, track and field, diving, horse events etc. Some of our young people have worked VERY hard to achieve their skill level, and I applaud that.

Deja, Forgive me for butting in, but I know from experience how painful shingles can be. You are in the land of natural medicine, find some melissa herbs and make yourself a tea. It will sooth the pain of the shingles and clear them up faster. You can drink and bathe in the tea. Can't find the herbs, try to find some essential oil. The oil can be rubbed on the stomach and spine. Relieves the pain and helps balance the acid load in your body. Bergamot is good too but it makes your skin more sun sensitive. some people have better luck with tea tree oil (melaluca) but i hate the smell.

Shingles is a sign of toxic overload. Drink lots of water to flush out your system, stay away from the fried foods. Try to keep your body as cool and as shaded as possible because sun and heat will make the shingles worse. Find one of those gel filled neck wraps that you soak in water. They do a great job of keeping your neck/body cooled. Keeping your body temp down will keep the shingles from getting worse. hope it helps!

Wow, what a mixed blessing. Able to see the Olympics live, and in misery from the Shingles.
Oh, and a belated Happy Birthday.

The hospital I've been going to has been very aggressive in treatment. I am on an I.V. anti viral which has been very successful so far. Pain Killers, natural herbs, vitamins, so on. it all seems to be working.

That is really good news, so glad the treatment is working. Shingles is actually caused by the chickenpox virus that remains in the body after the initial infection, and can cause shingles decades later.

amber, for sure it's about the games & the years spent trying to qualify. The medals are the frosting on the cake, just getting there is an honor.
Love hearing the different national anthems & of course & who doesn't like to hear
O Canada.

deja, it sure is viral & Zovirax works well. Keep in mind that open blisters are contagious so keep them covered.
I've never had shingles, but worry about it because I've had chicken pox & know the pain is severe enough that many require narcotics.
Sorry it had to break out on your trip, a real bummer.

Enjoyed seeing you on You Tube.

Deja, sounds like treatment has greatly improved since I had shingles in the 80's. All my doctor could offer was empathy. The phantom itching and pain lasted far longer than the blisters did. Luckily, it was on my back, not my face, which I hear is much worse. Best wishes to you!
