Okay, I'm chiming in here. I do NOT buy new boxes to ship items in. That would remove a good portion of my profit margin.

However, I don't use ugly used boxes. I find boxes everywhere and keep a good supply of them in my eBay office. I do remove any old stickers etc. on the boxes. Inside, I pack carefully and the materials depend on what I'm shipping.

I have never never never had a complaint about what I shipped an item in. And I have had repeat customers.

Roadsmith, I agree with what you have posted. I use mostly new boxes either purchased or priority from the PO. I sometimes use "recycled" boxes when I need a particular size or shape. As your experience, I have never had a complaint.

Also, as I have stated before, I have never received a package from an Ebayer that was disgusting. I guess
I am just lucky since I seem to be in the minority.

About time I got some support. I was beginning to feel like I was the only one to use a recycled box.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle isn't that the mantra we should be chanting? Reusing CLEAN used packing material and boxes is the right thing to do. It's Good for the bottom line and good for the environment. A win, win if you ask me.

My local drugstore saves boxes for me and I also reuse boxes I have received in the mail, no one has ever complained and I have been able to keep shipping costs down. I do buy the gigantic rolls of bubble wrap ($75.00) and 5x5x5 boxes. I also got in on a warehouse selling shipping boxes and have a room full of boxes, got them by the skid load for $10.00 - $15.00 each skid. You just have to take advantage of what you find.

I reuse boxes and also buy new when the items are an irregular shape / size. I buy my bubble wrap from Staples. They had the best price and free delivery when you spend $50 (sometimes the amount varies).

Re unwanted creepy crawlies, you can get them from new items, also. See reports of bed bugs & roaches found in new items from retailers like Macys & Norstroms. This is especially true of boxes, even new ones since the eggs can hide lots of places and many pests love the glue that these items contain. Nothing is 100% safe.

Your local Uhaul store has a recycle box bind as well. People use them one time to move and then take them back to Uhaul. You can have them for free but the bin is empty most of the time.

I have been using colored tape for almost a year now when taping up bubble wrap. This is to make it easier for the buyer to know where to peel and unwrap it much easier. I thought of this when unwrapping something I received. I didn't want to scratch it while cutting through the bubblewrap, so it took me 10 minutes longer to unwrap it. The tape costs 10 cents more a roll, but seems quite logical. I've had a few people email me mentioning it too.

I always used recycled boxes or misprinted boxes. We buy most of our boxes from Carton Service locally. When I am looking at $6.75 for a new box vs. 75 cents for a perfectly fine misprint or recycled box, you bet I am getting the 75 cent box. I only buy expensive boxes as needed. I will not ship items in boxes that have damage though. No point in using a compromised box that risks damage to an item.

I was amazed at the reasonable prices of boxes at Walmart. 50-75 cent for new larger boxes. (14 x 14 x 14, 24 x 14 x 20, etc).
