Believe it or not, I've never had cactus jelly I think it's more of a tourist/novelty thing to be honest. Because we are close to Mexico, we have a lot of Mexican influence in our diet. Like we almost always have refried beans, salsa, tortillas and green chilies on hand. Beef and chicken are the most common meats, followed by pork and turkey. We use a lot of potatoes and rice. I think the only lamb I've ever had was in a gyros sandwich. Do you have those there?

Prawns , crab, lobster are deeeeeeelish. Yum!!! I will eat just about anything seafood.

I am fuming because I have a very stupid sister, she has got major problems with her husband (she is seperated), and she is an idiot. I just do not understand her at all, but what is new with that. I don't want to bum everyone out, so I will leave it at that, because it gets pretty involved.

Oh my, how do I explain a gyros sandwich?? First of all, it's a greek thing. They take lamb (I think it's ground) and mix it with spices, lots of spices. Then the shave it off into slivers, put it on pita bread usually with lettuce, tomatoe and onion, then top it with a creamy cucumber dressing. They are delicious!

Somehow I knew it was one sister or another Netta

Now you guys are making me hungry The only thing open at this hour is Jack in the Box and they don't have gyros anymore!

I think what Mouse is describing is a kebab. Or at least that is what we call them.

Yes it was one of my sisters', this one drives me batty, she will not help herself and I can not help her anymore. She needs to get help and refuses to admit that fact. It just drives me nuts.

Pharlap, what is wrong with sea food, it is extremely good for you, and you call yourself a coast girl. LOL

No - a kebab is a greek meal which sounds exactly as you describe. You can get lamb, chicken and vegetarian ones. Except we usually have tahini, mayo or tzatziki on ours (you can ask them to make them however you want)

I will have chicken with mayo thanks. LOL

Mouse, I was talking to someone today and they said that they did not think you had the same easter holidays as us. So what I want to know is do you have both Good Friday and Easter Monday off or do you only get Good Friday as a public holiday? I am just a bit curious.

We don't get Good Friday off, only Easter if that happens to be a regular workday for you (and not every place does).

Do you guys have pita bread over there? I know there's a name for the cucumber sauce, I just forget what it is. Do you have shish-kabobs there?

Yes we have pita bread. And I think that your kabobs are our satay sticks...

Tzatziki = cucumber & yoghurt dressing. Is this the one you mean? (yummo stuff!!!)

I won't be around for a while this evening. I've got to finish packing some parcels that I want to drop off at the post office in the morning.
I hate packing and I've been looking at it all day. They still didn't pack themselves so I'm going to have to do it.
See you all later!

ROFLMAOPIMP!!!! We don't pay income taxes, LOL, that's funny! That's a sore subject over in this country. A lot of us feel it's ridiculous to pay income tax and then pay tax on everything else on top of it! That's one of George W's biggest things is a tax cut. As a married couple with no kids, DH and I fall into the highest taxation. We pay more tax than if we were single

LOL Bob you're so silly! I love shish-kabob's if the meat is marinated right and they're cooked right. I fancy my meat well done.

Mouse, we are in the same boat as you, as far as tax goes. We pay our personal and business tax and then we have to (as a business) collect GST tax for the government, and we have to pay GST ( goods and services tax) on everything we buy. We have no option but to pay the damn thing, and for anyone in business it is even worse because we have to do a huge amount of extra work for the tax man every 3 months, it is like tax time 4 times a year.

Yep, businesses here have to collect sales tax and do taxes every quarter too.

I think that's the stuff Pharlap! And you're right, it is yummy!

As far as holidays go, just about every company gives off New Year's Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. Some companies will give you Martin Luther King day and the day after Thanksgiving (Thanksgiving is always on Thursday) and Easter if it's your regular workday. My company gives a flat 80 hours of holiday time, so whatever isn't used on the major holidays are floating ones to use whenever. Well, that's how it used to be, now that designate our floating days. Like last year we had the day before the 4th of July off since it was on a Tuesday, that way we had a 4 day weekend.
