Hi everyone, I've just been catching up with the thread again.
nettakIf you run out of words with the mongrels who stole your splitter,
I've got plenty more you can use.
I won't be around much for the next week. Several projects are all coming to
fruition very quickly and at the moment my time is very limited. These projects
also involve quite a bit of travelling.
mouse, Good to see your auctions
are doing well. Like you, I can't complain. I've been getting some top results!
pharlapIf you ever get up around Gympie way, drop in and see a mate
of mine
who is running some really good auctions in the area. His name is Paul Bielby.
Tell him you know me and you'll be looked after.

Hiya Bob!
Ok - Geography was never my strong suit How far away from the Gold Coast is Gympie and in what direction? (don't laugh - I'm being serious! )

LOL Pharlap! I'm glad to see I'm not the only one.
Bob, I'm glad things are going well, but we're sure
going to miss you! Have you had a chance to look
at some of the newer ones and critique the backgrounds?

I can't remember for the life of me the name of his auction rooms, but you'd be sure to find it if your up that way.

mouse, Your auctions are looking real good. You've found some great backgrounds to use that don't overpower the listing.
Way to go!

Thanks for that Bob! I don't usually go that far up the coast but you never know... may want to go panning for gold one day

pharlap, I've been there and done that. Trouble is there's too much dirt mixed up with the yellow stuff!
I used to do a fair bit of gold hunting at one time. All the gears still in
the shed. The detectors, pans, picks and shovels are getting rusty these days.
If your really keen I've still got the sluice and long tom stacked away.
Also used to do a fair bit of dredging at one stage.
Never made a fortune at it but used to get enough to keep me coming back in search of the big one!

Apparently when we were kids (I was too young to remember) we went and did the touristy gold panning thing at Ballarat. We still have the little vial of water (at least I assume it's water!) with the teensiest little bits of gold in there.

Thanks Bob! Yes, that can be a problem with backgrounds.
There's tons of them out there, but who can see any
text on them??? I lucked out and found a very nice
site. I love their work and will probably use some
of them on my web page if I ever get around to rebuilding
it!
Gold panning is a big deal here too, somewhere up
north I believe. I've never been.

pharlap, The place your'e thinking about is Sovreign Hill.
It has grown into perhaps one of the biggest tourist centres
in Victoria. They do the whole thing these days, period costume,
a whole reconstructed goldfields town, stagecoaches etc, etc.
I used to run my own tourism venture, taking people out to various
goldfields for a day or two and teaching them how to go about
things. I used to do about two trips a week. It was surprising how
many of my customers went home with a bit of gold in their pocket!
The Americans couldn't
get enough time out there!

Well, it seem like I got my auctions launched in
the nick of time earlier! I've been trying ever since
to send another batch through Mr. Lister and it just
never gets there.

I have to go and do a bit more work.

Night Bob
Mouse - I've been trying to think of things to put into your package later in the year. I'm having trouble coming up with savoury things (I think you mentioned that you preferred savoury to sweet some time ago). Do you guys have "Shapes" or "In-a-Biscuits"? They are like tiny little cracker biscuits that come in all different shapes and flavours - great for parties or for snacking while watching a movie. Do you have those over there under a different name?

Your biscuits are our crackers, and yes we have tons
of flavors and shapes. I know I'm weird, but I did
like the SAO biscuits. We have something similar,
but they're not as thick. More wafer like. You can
always send me Bix Bars! LOL I looked into
my last box earlier and almost cried when I realized
I only had one left! I'm going to have to talk
a local store into importing those things!!!

What flavours did you like best?
Have you had enough courage to try the vegemite yet?
Edited to make link work

My favorite is still the apricot, but the berry one
runs a close second. I wanted to like the tropical best
because you said that was your favorite, LOL!
I haven't tried it yet, but I will! I was actually
going to try it on the SAO's, but I ended up eating
them with cream cheese one day when I had the munchies.

As kids (ok - I'll admit that I've done it as an adult as well! ) we would put butter and vegemite (or whatever filling) on two Vita Wheets and squeeze them together. This would create vegemite 'worms' that would come out of the holes...
Put begins with a 'p' not a 'b' - getting tired!

OK - that settles it! I'll be sending you some Vita Wheets so you can have a second childhood and make 'worms' again
I'll have to put my thinking cap on and think of some other different things we may have. I'll ask first - don't want to send something you can easily go to the shops and get anytime...
I'm going to head off now - thanks for the company! Will be in again tomorrow night...
Night!

about 4 months. To give you an idea, our forecast
this week is highs of 41 celsius (that is what you
use there right?) Ugh, I still need to hunt down
a melting smiley!
Ok, have fun and I'll see you later.

nettak - A piece of advice for you. I am familiar with a construction company in Texas that had very bad problems with major pieces of equipment like front loaders amd bulldozers being stolen. The border to Mexico is close and once it get across it is almost impossible to get it back due to the corrupt officials on the other side. Also there are lots of ranches some hundreds of square miles where it could be taken and never seen by the public again.
Their solution was to paint all their stuff a bright pink that would dazzle your eyeballs to look at. Not only does it take a lot of nerve to drive down the road with a piece of stolen equipment behind you that knocks your eyeballs out but they had someone say they did not see one of their dump trucks sticking out in the roadway when dumping a load and ran into it. When the court was shown a picture of the truck in all it's radiant splendor they were rolling on the floor LOL at the claim.
