I think he would be a great spokesman for the Democratic party. After all, racebaiting is the Democratic way.

You've all heard Al was arrested and sentenced to jail in Puerto Rico this week, right? He was protesting the naval bombing exercises at Vieques and caught a 90-day sentence and $500 fine. He has been returned to the U.S. via plane in handcuffs and in the custody of U.S. Marshals. He was taken off the plane and brought to another prison on U.S. soil to serve out his sentence.

This incident has led Al to compare himself to Nelson Mandela and says it has galvanized him to consider running for President.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't our laws forbid those who have been convicted from seeking the Presidency?

I can't believe nobody picked this up during my absence and ran with it:

Al Sharpton is on a hunger strike!

Since last Tuesday, Al has declared himself to be on a hunger strike. No solid food for Al as he tries to draw attention to himself and his fellow protesters, who call themselves "the Vieques Four."

I think Al must have anticipated being released on appeal when he announced the hunger strike on Tuesday. But to his surprise no doubt, on Friday the appeals court upheld the verdict and said Al has to stay in the slammer for the duration of his sentence.

Uh-oh.

What to do, what to do. I guess now that he went and made a big public show of going on a hunger strike he's going to have to stick with it for the next couple months -- either that or come up with a creative reason why he can't be on a hunger strike anymore.

These latest antics of his have earned him prison visits from at least three members of Congress. Some say this recognition by politicians gives him greater national stature. I don't know about that. I think the politicians are calling on Al as a not-so-subtle way of currying favor with the Puerto Rican population. They're just using Al as a tool.

For those of you worried about Al's health after four or five days without food, his supporters report that he is doing "okay."

Between this and the Bush daughters, I bet Jay Leno is really sorry he chose this past week to take his vacation.

I just can't wait to see what he looks like after 90 days when his processed hair isn't processed any more.

He might drop a little poundage from the hair and the girth.

Please don't confuse or compare me with other posters, that is both disrespectful and against the CGs.

Well, you knew it had to happen. Turns out Reverend Al's "hunger strike" isn't really a hunger strike.

Just saw him on the news. He looks very well rested and not under the least bit of duress. Odd, I thought, for a man on a hunger strike. But as the report went on I noticed that his much-hyped "hunger strike" is no longer being described as such. The new description is "protest diet," or "liquid fast."

Protest diet? What the hell is a protest diet? What kind of credibility or sympathy does he expect to gain by chugging down his fill of Ensure, Slimfast, Carnation Instant Breakfast, McDonald's shakes or whatever? What a buffoon. He probably has a team of attorneys trying to determine whether Chunky Soup is a liquid or a solid.

Reportedly the Reverend has lost 15 pounds and he claims that his imprisonment has been a "publicity bonanza."

spazmodeus What kind of credibility or sympathy does he expect to gain...

I think most would agree it is a bit too late for Sharpton to start working on his credibility or sympathy. Any thing he does has little impact anymore. You called it correct, he's a buffoon.

I do have a degree of sympathy for his supporters, anyone that stupid or ignorant deserves sympathy.

Can't wait to see him in the democratic primaries. Maybe enough democrats won't be able to read the ballots again, and vote for him. More recounts ahead.

Al Sharpton For President?

PAH_LEEZE

And New Yorkers vote for this guy?

And you thought we had screwed up elections in Florida?

His candidacy is probably just a bargaining chip for Democratic Party concessions

Only thing that makes sense.

This may be the one thing the majority of us agree on(a rare thing). There is something about him I just don't like. I almost never say this, but I dont trust his looks. He looks too....too.....something. When I see him I always think of different names for him rather than Rev. Al Sharpton. Huggy Bear is one, Silky Smooth is another, Pooty Tang runds a close third. Of course there is always Hitler 2.

Okay, everyone can relax now, Sharpton has ended his hunger strike (later renamed the liquid meal strike).

People have actually voted for this man, is that scary or what?

In primaries only. He's never made it past a primary.
