Do you remember the good/bad old days on AW ? Are you still around ? Stop in and share your favorite story, this should be a lot of fun.

You mean The Good Old Days before board flooding, political ax-grinding, beat-a-dead horse posts?

Or do you mean The Good Old Days before censorship?

S'matter, don't you like the "Only those who don't complain" shall remain days?

Well not much has changed, Thinkinghat. Ross managed to get suspended again a couple of days ago. Witchywoman is around, just not on AW.

I'm not sure "censorship" and AW policy are the real problems.

There are other boards where you can say anything, and the truth is they really suck. One is just about dead in the water. Another is a bunch of biddies who take half-hearted potshots at one another, then start "How Dare You Take a Potshot at Me!" threads. The ability to speak freely doesn't seem to have inspired any great thoughts, or to have motivated any interesting or passionate discussions at those other boards (at least lately). Even the fights are boring.

As for the nature of the threads here, well, I'm not fond of the political threads either. But the solution has always been right at our fingertips -- start new threads. I don't know if people are too intimidated to start new threads, or they worry that they may not get any responses, or maybe they think their ideas for thread topics aren't interesting ... but nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Besides, if you can't think of a thread topic offhand, you can always thumb through TV Guide for ideas, right?

Hi thinkinghat,

Are you still around?

Uh, yes.

I think AW's boards are still the best, most diverse and thought-provoking boards around, thanks to the posters who participate.

Until another board comes along that provides what I'm looking for in a chat board (preferably one where the posters are over 10 years old ), this is where I can be found, should anyone be looking for me.

Depends on what you mean by "old timer".
I've been reading this board since the days of Cyberyenta, Crystal, Horsie, Sneaky Dave & Witchy Woman. Back when Mark used to post like a regular person. My real registration date was lost in a software glitch.

I just don't feel the need to post all that often. So, do I count as an old-timer? Or are you looking for actual posters?

BIN here since April '99 when Mark walked me thru my first AW image hosting while he audibly "sighed" the whole time at my stupidity!
Much pleasanter place since November '99. Lot of good info to be found.
Hiya Shosh, old friend! who walked me thru jpg optimizer! Still have it and thankful for it . And Toke, hello!
Do you all remember our foodie thread with Model Citizen Tom? He, I remember also!

Hiya Glassperson... Glad it has helped you all along...I since then got PaintShopPro, which ahas a decent resize option, but still use my JPG Optimizer occasionally... Hope all is well with you and yours?

Victoria,

That would be an old-old-timer.

---------

Wish I could remember some of the fun stuff, but all I can think of is the negative. Not a good thing.

I'll keep racking my brain, though.

Hello thinkinghat!

Why resurrect the "good ol' days"? Just enjoy the ones we have now...they will be the "good ol' days" soon enough

PS...Ross wasn't "suspended" again...he was just ushered to his special revolving door and asked to step outside for a while. AW couldn't survive without his visits

I remember reading posts with/by those names. But now I'm wondering if this thread has anything to do with the thread posted on AuctionCrotch by Cari?

PRESENT!

I've been around a while, like Victoria.

Do you remember when chat used to be allowed in the EO?

Remember all the late night troll posters?

I remember the first picture thread, posted by disenchanted. I saved all those pictures and still have them.

I still use the JPG Optimizer, as taught by my friend SHOSH.

I don't have the time to figure out if I'm
an old-timer or newcomer or somewhere in between.

I'm still busy trying to figure out if I'm a
board biddyas Spaz mentioned.

How do I tell if I'm a biddy or not, anyway?

I must be sort of an old timer. I read here starting in April of 99 but didn't start posting until June of 99. Used to use a different ID.

Ah, nostalgia. I started reading AW immediately after its inception and began posting in December of 98, quit for a while when Bob began moderating, and rejoined.

The first big controversial issue was netcopping, Diana spearheaded the first Town Hall Meeting, then Oaua discussions, the DNF refugees...those were the major early issues/events. Very lively and diverse, as it has remained.

edited to add first Town Hall Meeting
