I have been using PayPal for awhile and have recently started using my "Debit M/C for on line related auction fees and purchases. Normal purchases go through without any problem and I am fimiliar with the Pending charges followed up by an actual charge a few days later.

My problem is that some companies will ping your account to check if its valid. They put in a Pending charge with no intention of actually billing anything at that time.

Typically with my other charge cards this will go away in a few days if there is no follow up by the charging business.

In two recent cases with my PayPal card, the charges continue to remain, one of them has been over 15 days now. One charge is by Direct TV who requires a credit card on file to show worthyness and the other is Prosperpoint which I use as an independent picture server.

I have emailed PayPal twice this past week and asked them to free up the funds. I haven't as yet received any response - not even a canned one.

Do those funds(total of 60.00)remain lost to me forever or what?
Will I get interest on those funds? I know PayPal is?
Can anyone suggest what I can do to to free them up?
Is there a set time limit where a "Pending Charge" is closed and put back into your usable account?

If it's going to be this much problem, I'm going to have to re-think the matter, perhaps I made a poor choice.....

Appreciate your response and help

Charlie

i believe paypal website has explanations of what these charges are and what will happen to them, could be in their frequent questions and answer issues.
sounds like the two companies like direct tv and other are to blame, most companies just charge 1.00 and reverse it later, not big enchilada 30 dollars.
why dont you ask them instead?

All I can find is an explanation of what it is (which I know and understand) and to wait 3 or 4 days for it to change to a final charge. I can't find anything on pendings that are not finaled out. Prosperpoint has recent made its monthly charge but the pending remains.

With CitiBank after a few days, they are dropped.

our local exxon gas station will first submit a one dollar charge and then in a day, reverse it and submit the real charge, same with mci/worldom.
may be the problem is between their credit card processing company and paypal.
interest rate could be going below 1 % for short term investment.

Well, I just got an email from PayPal. I thought, OK, they're going to give me some guidence, fix the problem, something!

Nope - I get a newletter telling me how to do my auctions.

Hey PayPal - I have few problems with my auctions because Customer Service is a priority. When will Customer Service become a priority with you?

Damon, this seems to be an easy fix - Could you just tell me the procedure or time frame or something?

19 days and still waiting.........

I have the same questions, I have several charges that are pending and are 15 days old from a cancelled transaction. As an auditor for a major car rental company, I know these authorizations are only good for 10 days to the original vendor. How long before Paypal releases the funds back to my account? Has anyone found a definite answer to this? I have also emailed paypal with no response.
Thanks,
Juliana

Hi,

It sounds like that there are auth charges on there (as a result of an error by the merchant or other). The debit card team can have these auths removed if the merchant faxes over information. I would recommend checking with the merchant first---at times, an incorrect auth code is entered, which creates the holding problem.

Dear Charles,

Thank you for contacting PayPal.

In order to remove the duplicate hold, we need a fax from the merchant
authorizing us to remove the hold. They will need to include the amount of
the charge, your name, and PayPal card number. It will need to be faxed on
their letterhead to 1-402-935-2235. Otherwise, if the transaction does not
complete, the funds will be credited back on the 31st day.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us again.

I still wonder why they need to hold the money in pending for 30 days - Actually I suspect that I know...........

Today is the 30th day - Tomorrow the 31st day.

I am anxious to see if what they say is what will happen - Will advise tomorrow.

8 AM EST on the 31st day
The pending charge has been returned to my account and usable. Exactly what they said they would do. One more to go, but I'm satisfied that they will do that one as well when the time comes.

Thank You PayPal for the followup and completion. I just wish I could have known what was going to occur, without waiting so long for the email response.

Perhaps an item to add to the FAQ.
