An article in USA Today won't be druming up any business, unless they read close.

The statistic of 1 in 40,000 being fraud is rather low in my opinion.

If you mean low by the amount of misrepresentation, I'd agree. There's a LOT of stuff I won't buy again on eBay unless the seller's reputation is exceptional.

The outright stealing though, is probably pretty low.

I think that Yahoo leads all auction sites in the amount of fraud. Part of it is because Y! doesnt care. I can find a dozen scams in 5 minutes. Bidders with 80 IDs and negative feedback in three digits. Y! doesnt seem to ever kick anyone off for anything. They dont even verify the email IDs used to create the Yahoo ID.
