Saw an ebay commercial last night on TV. It showed a guy paying $500.00 for an ugly lamp only to get home and discover that his wife was the seller. EXCUSE ME ebay Marketing, but what your commerical forgot to show was the loser in the auction reporting their suspiscion of shill bidding and filing a report with safeharbor.

Since both accounts would have the same address. Those untrained nimcompoops at safeharbor would have suspended both accounts for engaging in fee avoidance.

Also since your commercial paints a situation of a husband and wife having accounts and not having a clue what each other are doing. Why does your safeharbor department suspended spouse accounts when they suspend an account?

Well all jokes aside what exactly was this tasteless commercial supposed to sell about ebay. All it showed to networker67 was you haven't foggiest who your true market is.

I thought it was really funny.

And it wasn't an eBay commercial, it was for Visa.

Honestly, some people simply look for evil!

Just what we need. A commercial showing ebay as the place to bid on useless, ugly, expensive stuff.

Glenda - Really that was a VISA Commercial? Then there are two marketing departments that need to get their acts together. VISA needs to make sure the normal viewer gets the VISA concept and ebay needs to make sure that commercials that use their name and likeness don't paint it in a bad way.

Hey ebay legal now you really need to get a TRO not to show that commercial. it really didn't show you in good light IMHO.

Moving along not looking for evil but given ebay's stance reference Spouse Accounts. Doesn't it seem sort of kinda lame to show a commercial that acknowledges it is very possible for the two to not have a clue who is doing what? Are you so stuck on ebay does nothing wrong that you failed to see the wrong that was broadcast into 4 million homes last night. That is TNT's typical market share for Bull on its regular night.

newguy - Look at the bright side they could have used one of those famous panty auctions for the commercial. Even funnier that painting auction.

Hi folks! picked this article up on the Yahoo Seller Zone!

http://www.usatoday.com/usatonline/20000830/2595939s.htm

They are going into full scale advertising!

I wonder who is going to pay, since the article also says their stock has been falling?

warr: I'm sure that even if yahoo raises its fees 1000% to compensate this they would still be cheaper than ePay.

When I first saw this commercial I thought they might as well have said "Ebay is the place to unload all of your crap, and get some dummy to buy it." Maybe funny for a Visa commerical but not a good Ebay endorsement.

I had to laugh though-anyone notice the box the wife was trying to ship the lamp in?

Scene one...in a family room in average America. Husband and wife relaxing with a cup of coffee.

Husband..."I think the garage sale went well, we made a little over $500."

Wife..."yes I know! I can't believe people bought that old junk! Some nut actually paid $10 for that ugly old painting your aunt mary gave us as a wedding gift. And someone else bought Suzie's old Barbie doll. I was surprised someone wanted that old set of dishes, you know, the one with all the flowers that always reminded me of English chintz fabric. Heck, it only had the teapot, a few plates, a couple of cups and saucers and a few serving pieces, but the lady who bought it seemed very excited.

The guy who bought all the books was funny...I wonder when he will have time to read ALL those books...but he said he loves to read. I gave him the whole bunch real cheap because he looked like he didn't have any money.

And that lady who bought the lamp that used to be your grandmother's...she pointed out all the flaws before she offered me $10...said $20 was to much considering the shape it was in."

SCENE TWO...Antiques road show. Appraiser is talking to woman about a painting she brought in.

Appraiser...now, for the value. This artist's works are very much in demand and at auction this piece would bring $25,000 to $40,000.

Woman who owns painting...OH WOW. I only paid $10 for it at a garage sale..the seller was so happy to sell it, she said she and her husband always thought it was ugly!

SCENE THREE...AW thread titled "What did you get at the garage sales today?"

Poster A...I picked up a Barbie doll for 25 cents...it's the first Barbie doll made. Do you know how much these sell for on ebay!! WOW, I can't believe it!

Poster B...I picked up a partial set of Chintz, including a TEAPOT. The teapot alone should bring over $300..happy dance!!!

Poster C...I bought a large number of books. There are several first editions, with dustjackets, in almost new condition. The Norman Mailer book will bring $150 alone. I expect to make over $1500 on this $10 purchase. Just goes to show you..some people don't know what they have. Aren't garage sales fun!!

Poster D...I got a Handel lamp in almost perfect condition. Woman wanted $20 for it but I talked her down to $10..told her what bad condition it was in. Hee hee!!

I thought the ad was cute! Rather than seeing it as a put down of ebay sellers because we sell "ugly junk", I saw it as saying what one person sees as junk another sees as a treasure and you can find lots of treasures on ebay!

overworked - Am I missing something from your reply. As we both know from the thread about the litigation that I never shilled an auction. That little bit of fluff and flash was a Terrible attempt by ebay's lawyers to make the media think the suit was something it wasn't.

Rather than rehash that wonderful thread, let's keep in mind I have never been in that situation. I have never bought from my wife and my wife has never bought from me. To further the point she has never sold on ebay. So the commercial actuall opened the door for others to peirce ebay's So called rules on multiple family accounts when they NARU someone. Because the commercial fully shows that they acknowledge that it is possible for a husband and wife to not have a clue what the other is doing on ebay.

On another note ebay didn't ban me for life. In fact after that ship shoddy suit was taken apart point by point here on AW and in judges chambers. They didn't have a legal leg to stand on. To further their terrible position far as networker67 is concerned they have broken the darn agreement twice already to date. I was just being nice about it and didn't haul them into court over it. What's great about that agreement, I don't have to incurr any filing fees to haul them back into court. So call me a nice guy as far as they are concerned. And bad mouth ebay they do enough everyday to bad mouth themselves. I just enjoy talking about when they do it. Besides it gives the ebay is perfect crowd something to talk about. You must admit sure beats the heck out of talking about deadbeat bidders every other thread on Auction Watch.

No, of course you wouldn't do anything so nefarious as shill bidding Braxton. You just use your wifes i.d. to shoot your mouth off to all and sundry, wonder if she knows? Funny how when you/she post, a pink is always standing by, and you suddenly are gone, like you're fooling anyone. Hiding behind the wifes skirts? What else to be expected, seeing that all 72 or whatever of your i.d.'s were naru'ed. No, Braxton, you're just the epitome of the model net citizen. Tickets in the lobby as to how long you'll last in here with your soapbox on umpteen threads.......

overworked - If I was really the nefarious type I would ask for a moderator here to check on the use of my real name.

But I resent that wild accusation. I sure hope ebay doesn't make that accusation because that would prove to be a very expensive false accusation for their company. And you can of course prove those statements?

Wow you Q and A regulars still haven't a clue what your silly actions might cost your precious ebay. Trust me on this one it will be a lot of money that I am quite sure Meg doesn't want to have to explain to the shareholders. In fact since you used my name here I will archive this thread for evidence of where the false accusation came from and use it to force ebay to shut that silly waste of bandwidth down should they be STUPID enough to listen to you and your friends.

Wow you guys over there in super silly land really don't know when to quit. But I knew that which is why our settlement reads the way it does. It forces ebay to think long and hard before ever listening to you guys again. So keep those accusations going and you are going help ebay unwillingly finance my retirement.

Amy, you are right, the current incarnation of the commercial is cute (and I actually think the lamp is pretty). They have changed it from when it initially aired. I don't remember the exact wording of either version, but instead of "look honey I sold this lamp" it was something like "I finally got someone to buy this old lamp". It just left the wrong impression at the time.

Overworked,

You people attack Network67 every chance you get, no matter what he says. Leave him alone. You people are like wild animals going after him. I'm sick of seeing you people go after him every time he makes a post.

It's like you really have nothing better to do. It's just plain obnoxious. Go talk to an animal or take some Prozac or something. Geez.

mrkaratz - I have learned to ignore people like overworked. They made an outlandish accusation and when called on it decided to insult you by calling you the porn king. That's the number one problem with some of that crew camping out on the ebay Quacks and Affronters Board. They'll be their own undoing by not realizing that they are insignificant in the grand scheme of things. But the very thought of their insane actions lining my pockets at the expense of ebay gives me one heck of a laugh.

overworked - you found the need to insult because of shall we say a lack of anything credible to say. Or you choose to do so bbecause you wanted to start some Q and A confusion in this thread. Sorry confusion and confused people belong in the Sandbox or is it the Sandlot. SO run back and play in the sandlot or is it sandbox.

You made some false and pointless accusation to try and bother me. Now my posting on a site that has absolutely nothing to do with your precious Q and A. And run over here, you need the help because you are not only overworked but over obsessed with networker67. Do me a favor get over me, trust me on this one trying to figure out what I am doing won't cause you nothing but a lot of endless nights of sleep.

froglegs - Interesting name there makes me wonder who you really are? However since I didn't produce the commercial or approve its content why blame me because it sends a mixed message about a specific ebay policy. Heck I don't write the rules over there at the World's Largest Online Trading Venue. So why blame me because I started a thread to discuss the ambiguity of the commercial in relation to ebay's interpretation of its own rules. I know ebay does nothing wrong and anyone who points out their flaws is bad and need to be corrected by the sandbox membership also known as the Hyena Pack

Let me guess you guys crawled out from under those rocks because ebay decided to have an unscheduled outage before the regularly scheduled outage and you have nothing else to do with your meaningless lives. Heck isn't that sandbox still open for you guys to play in?

docpjw - Well now I know it is time to place that wonderful looser on ignore. But before I do that here's a thread where you get see overworked realy live up to their ebay name. Visit the new thread titled Contest or shilling in disguise. I started it just so we can round up all those loose hyena pack members into one place so they can't run around and wreck more AW Threads while ebay is experiencing difficulties this evening.
