Please just listen to me as I whine, pout and wail....I stopped into a thrift store this afternoon looking for this n' that....the owners were just putting out some donations. Looking over them casually I noticed that one was a vintage Singer Featherweight sewing machine (a oldie but goodie, very much in demand among quilters, etc., goes for between 150 and 300 on eBay.) This one wasn't in the best condition but it was TWENTY DOLLARS...and guess what!!! They don't take credit or checks and I only had 15 dollars cash!!! I made a mad dash for the bank, got stuck in traffic, and when I got back 45 minutes later it was gone...someone else bought it. I could cry. I actually wanted it for myself, but now, of course, I'm thinking about the money I could have made. Wahhhhh.

Oh, I'm sorry. What a bummer.
You did all you could, though, and it was totally out of your control. I think it feels worse to know that you should have bought something that you could have bought but didn't. I've done that and I just dwell on it forever...

Wow... is it a small world or what? I found a Singer Featherweight sewing machine at a thrift store today. I was debating buying it till the clerk said someone had tried earlier but didn't have cash, that tipped the scales for me. I had to dig in my car to find the last 47 cents to come up with enought cash. The moral of the story, never remove those quarters, nickels, and dimes from under the seat till you need them.
A sense of humor isn't necessary... its critical
Nice to know that someone besides me misses out on deals from time to time.

We can still pick them up over here in England for $10 - $20 with no problems. I just wish they really were Featherweights - I would be listing and shipping all day long

Could you have given them the $15 that you had to hold it while you went to get the other $5? That's what I would have tried to do.
BTW, I always liked your AW name; my name is Bridget.
(edited for spelling; too many beers while anxiously awaiting election results!)

busybiddy---I know, it seems obvious, I wish I had--but the employees of this thrift are about 98 years old, they get confused if you bring up any thing that's not a straight sale, and I didn't want to get into a discussion with them which would probably end up with them refusing---I thought I could get to the bank and back easier than I could make them understand I wanted them to hold it!!

Someone I know stopped in a what seemed to be a church sale, and found some great collectibles that would have brought a good bit on ebay, and tried to buy them to find out the church was actually accepting donations for the needy. She tried to buy them but they said it was given for the needy and wouldn't let her buy anything. (Uh, wouldn't it have made more sense to ebay it and use the money to help the needy than give them collectible china?) Just my opinion.
