I see there are now 2 places to list an item, but I have someting that would go well in at least 6 places. So can I list this Item six different times, in 6 different places, change the description depending on which of the 6 componets I want to highlight in the description of the item, and still be abiding by the guidelines? This is still the same item, but of the 6 components of the item, wording it to highlight each of the six parts individually in seperate ads, would appeal to six differnt types of collectors. Does anyone understandwhat I am saying here? Your opinions welcomed!

I have a question more than an answer. Do you only have 1 of these items? If you list in 6 different categories and change the descriptions won't the item be "assigned" a new item # by the eBay system each time? If this happens, and you get bids on the SAME item in different categories who wins?????

I don't know if I made that clear or not so I will try again. Can you list the same item under different categories and KEEP THE SAME ITEM NUMBER for all the categories so it will be recognized as the same auction and NOT 6 different auctions???

edited for clarification (I hope)

You should only have as many auctions as you have items - ergo, if you have one item, you should have only one auction.

One auction in two categories is one auction/one number. Six auctions, two categories each, would be 3 different auctions/auction numbers.

Your best bet is to list something in the place most people are likely to be looking for it. Most people search by name anyway so a lot of this right category stuff is rather mundane IMHO.

I have 6 of these items right now, and they are highly collectable, and would appeal in all or part to 6 different types of collectors. I want 6 different auction numbers, and it would cost less, I would think, to have 6 - 25 cent listing fees, then 3- double catagory listings.(and using the 3 with double catagories, only 3 of the 6 individual items would be listed) I have tried Dutch Auctions and to get what they are worth or close to, I would have to start them quite high, which alot of people might just scroll on by. (I am spraining my brain waaay to early in the morning for me.)

This brings up another question ... what does eBay say about listing items that you DON'T have? I occasionally see listings for CD's and DVD's that have not yet been released. In these cases, what happens if the producer delays or cancels the release? For example, I have seen listings for Season 2 of The X-Files on DVD. This set was supposed to be released on Tuesday (Nov 7) but has been delayed until November 28. Anyone who may have bid and won this set will not get product until at least the first week of December.

I would say this is not a responsible seller. I for one would never list a product that I did not have in hand. Depending on others to come through for you leaves too much to chance, and a job worth doing is worth doing yourself!

He says he has six of the items.

Furkidmom...there is nothing wrong with having six different auctions for six different items. Ebay does allow you to have a small number of identical items up fo auction at the same time without having to do a dutch auction.

That would be a pretty stupid thing to do. You won't get the bids. Most buyers know to check your other auctions. If this is something very common on Ebay then it doesn't matter, but if it is something where yours will be the only one on the site then I would hold off, sell one at a time, and possibly sell only one per month. I have had this same situation and it always works out that if you sell a rare item then immediately sell another identical one, you don't get jack for it.

furkidmom: If you've got 6 items, list 6 separate auctions in 6 different categories. They only squibble if you've got more than 10 identical listings.
