Does anyone know how duty is calculated at the Canadian border? (This would be for packages shipped from the U.S.)

It all depends on the goods inside the package and the value of the goods and how they are being sent. Some items do not have any duty on them. If being shipped through the mail and they have duties on them Canada Post charges a $5.00 Handling Fee. If being shipped through a Courier service i.e., UPS there could be Brokerage Fees.

And lets not forget the taxes, GST, PST or HST where applicable.

Here are two links for more information.

I hope this helps you out.

Wow,

I never knew that info. Thanks.

I found out that most of the items I send to Canada are Duty Free. I still have people asking me to send it as a gift. I don't do that though.

The reason people want you to send it as a gift is so they don't have to pay taxes on it.
