I am wondering about the best way to ship books to Mexico. USPS flat rate envelope will fit, but what can I do to show this was shipped or insure? Any better ideas for shipping?

Take a look at Express Mail. I used it recently on an item to Mexico because it includes insurance. Not cheap. About 71/2 pounds cost $41.00.

The slow surface rates for international packages have gone up so much, they're almost the same price as airmail. If your book(s) will fit in the global priority envelope and weighs under 4 pounds, that's probably cheaper than straight airmail (you can check on the USPS website).

It appears no rates less than Express Mail (for $40+) to Mexico can be insured, but that's a lot to pay for postage just to insure the package.
