What a week! I have a buyer who just filed a fraud complaint against me for not sending a $5 item. Two weeks ago I filed for a non-payer alert. The auction ended on March 8. He says he sent a money order on March 13. I responded saying he needs to do a trace on the money order. He says it would cost him over $2 and would have to wait 45 days before the PO would do a trace. That doesn't sound right. Anyone know how long the PO would take before doing a trace?I filed for a FVF refund and it made him mad so he filed a fraud complaint. But I'm not waiting 45 days+++, and he hasn't even inititated a trace yet.

I think about 30 days and then it would probably take about 2 weeks to get any information on it.
It's possible that the buyer is telling the truth.
The only experience with lost money orders I've had was about 15 years ago one of our money orders was lost in the mail. We had to wait until it was missing for 30 days and then it took them 30 days to do the trace. (I don't think it was a postal money order though... I think it was from a grocery store chain or something like that)
ALSO
About 2 years ago, one of my buyers experienced a lost money order. And if I recall correctly, it DID take approx 30 to 45 days to get it all straightened out.. her with a money order refund and then send my the money for the item.

they lost a $250.00 money order of mine a few years ago. If I recall they made me wait 60 days before they would reissue.
Then they came back 9 months later and told me the the money order had now been cashed and they wanted the $250 plus a service charge !!!
BTW it was a postal money order mailed priority mail
oh ya evan though it was a postal money order, mailed priority mail they charged me to refund the money
