There is a serious security flaw in Netscape's Smartdownload application that can cause malicious code to execute on your system even during casual browsing. Apparently there is a new version which corrects this problem but Netscape has not been very forthcoming about this flaw and has not issued an appropriate warning. If you're using Smartdownload 1.3 it's advisable to either upgrade to 1.401 or dump the program entirely. You can read the details in the following article:

Okay...

As usual, I'm confused... I ran a "find" for ** sdph20.dll ** and found nothing. I also ran a find for ** smartdownload ** and found nothing.

Blanche! Please tell me that means I don't have it!?!?

Hi reddeer... Thanks...

Hi reddeer and toke. If you don't have sdph20.dll on your system then you don't have Smartdownload installed and you're safe. Smartdownload was an automatic install on some Netscape versions and on others it was an option. Toke, it must have been an option for you which you chose not to install. (luckily)

Apparently this application helps with downloading large files from the net because it has a resume function. The thing I find most upsetting is that Netscape hasn't WARNED any of it's users about this problem. Instead, they just sneaked in with an upgrade. That sucks!!

Hiya spaz. I'm still kicking.

Neil, your Netscape version is so old that they probably didn't have the Smartdownload application at the time so you probably don't have anything to worry about. Of course, since Netscape 6 is bundled with the Aureate spyware you're better off with the older version.

Toke, there's a new AdAware version and also another new reflist sig file which was just added yesterday. http://www.lavasoft.de/aaw/index.html

Blanche...

Have I told you lately that you're a wonderful woman? Are you available for adoption?

If not...I am...

Toke, I'm not up for adoption yet but I'm looking to adopt a SUGAR DADDY and I don't think you fit the bill.

I've discovered after living alone for many years that there is a place for a man in my house afterall!!

Ah, Blanche...

Though I hate to admit it...the years of propaganda have some truth to them.

Men are good things. I have one of those, hanging around and making me smile...

How much yardwork is involved?

Empires, it's funny that you should mention "yard work". It just occurred to me that my sudden interest in finding a MAN is directly related to the beginning of spring and the dreaded yard work. I have tons of it!! LOL

I think you hit the nail right on the head.

Thanks for the reply. Blanche Funny though, I was looking for a good cook and with all that new found work on your hands it would seem that the negotiations will have to cease at this point! I'll be in the back 40 myself, trimmin hedges etc.!
