I would love if all my high bidders wanted me to ship through UPS. I love the fact that they come to my house at no charge to pick up packages. No postal lines!!

Unfortunatly, my bidders would not love for me to ship them a video or watch and charge them what UPS does for light-weight items.

If your bidder doesn't mind paying the shipping charges then why the heck not???

If they were cheaper I would use them exclusivly.

I thought UPS charged a weekly fee to pick up packages? Last I knew, it depended on how much you shipped - and it was either $8, $10, per $12 per week.

Has this changed?

I guess because I don't have a business account with them.

I sell mostly lighter items so I don't use them very much.

I just look up the cost for the weight and size of my package call ups, give them my address and they are at my door the next day. No extra fees.

I believe if you don't have an account with them, you are actually paying $1.00 extra per package, per pickup.

I don't think *anything* is free with UPS.

I am almost positive that I paid the same price I was qouted on their site.

Who knows.

Either way if my bidders would pay UPS prices I would prefer shipping that way as opposed to standing in line at the PO any day.

I ship carloads of packages every week and I never have to stand in line because I use Endicia. I just hand the packages to the clerk and leave. If they are busy I can drop them off in bins out behind the post office.

I've used UPS before, and for me, there is no comparison. I wouldn't recommend UPS to anyone.

you would rather load up your car, drive to the PO, lug packages into the post office rather than have packages picked up at your home?

not me.

No, but more importantly, I'd rather have my packages get to my customers in one piece

When I had a UPS account - I had horror stories on a weekly basis with them. I was filling out claim forms as quickly as I was shipping packages out. I had items take OVER A MONTH to get to other customers right here in the states, and I had other packages that literally had TIRE MARKS on the packages.

Since I've switched to USPS Priority Mail, I think I've only had 1 lost package and NO damaged items delivered in the past 3 years.

I've used the pickup service with UPS for over a year now, and not one problem.

The charge is $7 a week, as long as you ship at least $50 a week.

Their prices are VERY competitive (less than the website when you have an account) when you figure in insurance and tracking.

The only problem is having to find your own boxes.

I love shipping UPS. My local shipping counter is just great. They supply me with any size box I need, free of charge. they packaged a large antique picture for me, their box and peanuts, my bubble wrap, free of charge.

I have had to file one claim and that was last week, they called today to say the check was there. They didn't go to the house to check the item or anything, just put the claim through (I did send a picture of the broken item with my claim).

The shipping charge is so much cheaper for larger, heavier items that there is no comparison.

Everybody's situation is different. I ship very few packages that are economical to send via UPS (most weight less than one pound), and it's no trouble at all for me to drop my mail in a box with the proper postage affixed while I'm out running other errands. I've had excellent luck with USPS service and delivery, and the only time there was a loss, I got nearly instant reimbursement through U-PIC.

In all fairness, when I do use UPS, I get good service as well, but it's very rarely that I have something that is heavy/bulky enough to warrant it.

No, its $4.00 per address (3 packages to one address, 1 pickup fee. 3 packages to 3 diff addresses, 3 pickup fees.). But I have an account, and it's $7.00 per week as long as I do $50 a week.

Yup. My packages average around 15 lbs, with a good number being 50 to 100 lbs. Postal rates stink on 50 lbs, and 100 lbs won't fly at all thru the post office.

UPS has lots of different kinds of accounts.

I can't remember what type mine is but I don't save anything if they only pick up one package.

However, I do save $3/package if I print up my labels at their site, and then either drop them off or hand them to a UPS driver. So, during busy weeks, one package would be the normal rate, but any other package shipped that same day would be "handed to the driver" thereby resulting in the $3 savings.

Other conveniences: free labels (which work well w/other services since they don't have UPS stamped all over them). And monthly billing rather than having to leave the check w/the package or hand it to the driver.

I don't ship much using UPS, but so far (knock on wood) I haven't had problems.

edited to add: there's no weekly/monthly fee for this type of account. It's just pay as you go.
