hello,

I while back, someone posted a URL that allowed us to create and print USPS labels which included free confirmation delivery.

Does this free comfirmation delivery still exist? If yes, does anyone know the URL?

Sure do... Here it is.

http://www.usps.com/cgi-bin/api/shipping_label.cgi

Remember, its only good for Priority Mail shipping and you must ship the item on the day you state on the label.

I just went in and looked and yes the ability to print the label is still there. It should work. Remember it cannot be scanned at your local USPS but it is scanned probably at there main station.
Let's see if I can do the clickable link for you otherwise you will have to cut and paste.

Hi,
I have a question on using these labels.
How do you print these 1/2 sheet labels.
I have an old inkjet & all I can select is print all or page 1 to whatever.
Where does the rest of the info on the page go?
Thanks,
Chris

that 1 page is going to use up a lot of that ink in your ink cartridge.

delivery confirmation does not really buy you much,if you ship usps priority,it should get there in 2-3 days,and there is really no need for these antsy customers to check.
<br />
someof these customers are a total pain in the ass?
<br />
they behave like they are in some kind of concentration camp tracking when the allies are coming to liberate them or when will the red cross food truck come??
<br />
it wastes your time going up to the usps website and waste your precious ink to print that large label,and then some stations wont take it,what a pain.
<br />
and what does it prove if you get a chargeback??<br />

I personally wouldn't print directly off the web site, but save the graphic to a location on your hard drive. Open it in a graphics program and print it to your half sheet label. So when you print it, you have the other half that you can insert the other way and use again. Laser printing is ideal, but inkjet is good as long as your printer is well maintained.

As for delivery confirmation, I find it protects me again buyers that claim they never received their package. It will happen and there are some dishonest buyers. When I use delivery confirmation, no one has ever claimed their package was not received.

I have stopped using mailing labels and I use the address submitted by my buyer. What I do is enlarge my font to the largest print then I print their email on plain white paper cut it and glue that to my package. That keeps me from making a mistake on my addressing. Of course your buyer has to print the address in envelope form. I have also done that with my return address labels. I quit buying avery labels because of the expense not they they are that expensive but this is cheaper and just as easy to use. (also sometimes they get stuck in my printer) Even with my avery labels I covered them with clear tape so I do that with these labels also. With the USPS Priority label I glue it down and then put my clear tape over it but make sure I do not cover the bar code.

Great idea! Why didn't I think of that? I think I'll print the bottom half on plain paper so I can attach it to the other paper work.[p]Yes, I print out everything, I know it's all on file, it just makes me feel better. After 30 days, or after feedback, all the paper goes out.[p]New Year's resolution is to stop doing that - old habits die hard.

Here's a free tip on these

Right click on the barcode image and select print from the menu that appears. Then, all that prints is what you want to print. A lot quicker than selecting, saving into another program, or any other method that I've tried.

Hi. I am sub contracted by the USPS. I can offer folks shipping software that does give FREE Delivery Confirmation. I am new to this message board stuff and am not sure what I can say. I do not want to break any rules. So I guess if you have questions you can email me.

You pay for the shipping software I bet. Did anyone notice on the USPS site that they have Shipping Assistant software that links with Quickbooks?

My post person scanned mine and it worked. I don't see why other post offices can't scan them.

Thank you all for this thread. I mailed 10 packages this week. So, I am $4.00 on the plus side.

Here is what worked for me:

1. I just print on paper, cut off the half sheet and tape it on the box.

2. The counter person charges me for it, scans it in, and then deducts the price as "customer postage."

I did have 1 package that the program wouldn't accept. It seemed like a trailor court out in a rural area. It had a weird address.

Still, I am happy with the results.

It is interesting how it automatically adds the zip + 4 (the 4 part).

After living here 6 years, I have finally memorized the my zip + 4.

Again, thanks for the tips.

They aren't meant to be scanned at your post office. It should beep on them when they try, or try to charge you .40. The first scan is considered to be when you print them out. It is then scanned a second time when their postmas delivers it.
I print mine on cheap 20# paper, and gluestick to package. I then cover in clear tape (as long as it scans it's ok to do that..be sure the tape is smooth). If the package doesn't show up, you get your postage back, and it also is acceptable Paypal proof. So far all of mine have shown up.

<They aren't meant to be scanned at your post office. It should beep on them when they try, or try to charge you .40. >

They do charge you 40 cents. However, before the clerk prints out the postage sticker, she punches in that the customer already put 40 cents postage on it. This deducts 40 cents from your total.

<The first scan is considered to be when you print them out>

Hmmmm, it appears you are right and that the scan does not register at the Post Office, though.

Here is what the P.O says about a normal green delivery confirmation:

"Your item was accepted at 9:39 am on January 11, 2002 in (CITY, STATE ZIP). Status is updated every evening. Please check again later."

And here is what the P.O says about a computer generated delivery confirmation, even after it was scanned at the post office the day before:

"The U.S. Postal Service was electronically notified by the shipper or shipping partner on January 10, 2002 at 10:18 pm to expect your package for mailing. Status is updated every evening. Please check again later."

Interesting, the scan at the Post Office didn't seem to register.

However, at least by scanning at the Post Office, the delivery confirmation number is printed on your receipt:

CITY, STATE ZIP $5.20
Priority Mail
Delivery Confirmation $0.40
Label Serial #: 11112222333344445555
Customer Postage -$0.40
--------
Issue PVI $5.20

So, the total charge is still only $5.20. I guess the "Issue PVI" is what their postage meter prints out.

Anyway, even if the scan at the P.O. is useless, it will give your receipt a record of the delivery confirmation number in case you forget to write it down.

I checked packages already delivered and that message is the exact same either way.

I guess I will continue to have them scanned at the Post Office.

"Delivery" is the important aspect as far as 99% of customer relations.

But, you never know when a weird customer will accuse you of not even mailing it.

You could show them your receipt with their city and state and zip. And you could give them the tracking number and they can see that a priority package was, indeed, mailed 2 weeks ago and hasn't been delivered. However, only by getting them scanned at the P.O., anyway, do you have proof that that undelivered priority package was actually the one addressed to their city, state and zip.

This could calm a customer and prevent the headaches of a chargeback, allowing a seller time to issue a replacement or refund.

Fortunately, my customers have been mostly very nice and the P.O. service has been excellent. Still, an ounce of prevention . . .

Take care, everyone.

Apparently the scanners at your post office are MUCH more modern than the one at mine.

All I've ever gotten on my receipts is:

109 POST VAL IMP 3.95
109 POST VAL IMP 0.40

Now that I'm using eDC, I'm SAVING the "other" half of the paper that has the DC, the date, and all of the shipping info and clipping it to the receipt.

One of our postal people was getting reammed out for scanning the package. They really aren't suppose to..it messes up the way this works. I wish they would..since I don't consider doing it on line as a really true way of proving I sent it..even if it is considered sent by Paypal if needed.
When they have accidently scanned mine, and the .40 charge was found, it was deleted and didn't show up on my receipt.
