I'm a very small time seller and unless things get better I may stay one. I am not registered with any of the quick payment methods. A buyer just sent email that she paid through bidpay. I also got one from bidpay saying I had been paid but noticed I wasn't a registered user. How does this work? Do they send me the m/o through snailmail? I know this sounds stupid to you guys. I have in my description that I accept M/O and checks only so was quite suprised when this happened. Any help here?
I know NOTHING about how it works!

Through BidPay you will receive a Western Union money order and it is guaranteed. You will receive a second confirmation e-mail from BidPay so you know that the payment is on it's way. It is sent snail mail but most arrive quickly.
There is no cost to you and you don't have to register with them if you don't wish to. We have always shipped after the 2nd confirmation e-mail and have never had a problem but some sellers wait until the money order arrives first.

Bidpay works this way - buyer purchases a Western Union money order, usually with a credit card. Western Union sends the money order to you through snail mail. You don't have to be registered with them in order to receive the money order. So you'll be receiving an actual money order in the mail in a few days and, except for the online notification, it's no different than receiving a money order purchased at the Post Office or a 7-11.

Well gee I thought it was more complicated than that. That'll work. If it is that easy I guess I need to put that in my payment options. THANKS so much to both of you.

Hello
First off I don’t have all the answers here. Perhaps someone else does. I would email the buyer and indicate you cannot accept Bill point and they need to cancel whatever they have done and send a check or MO. I would insure that in BIG letters all your auctions say “DO NOT USE CHECK OUT, Bill point, Pay Pal etc. I can take only check or MO” or whatever words to that effect you like. Keep it simple and very clear. (I have my wife read my copy to see if is clear to her). I also quickly email winners after an auction closes to reduce wrong or in your case erroneous payments. You are limiting your sales by not taking Bill point and or Pay pal. The cost is about 3% plus 32 cents per transaction. I figure in my item cost, Ebay, Credit cards, Auction watch and adjust before I offer an item. I don’t work for Ebay. I work for me. I wish you great sales…..Dave

Hmmm.....Dave, perhaps you better get your wife to read the top message for you.
This is BidPay, not Billpoint. This is a money order.

I know I am limiting myself all the way around by not accepting other methods of payment. I thought by keeping it simple with checks and M/O there would not be any problems. Bidpay sounds great. Billpoint and paypal sound like headaches to me. I read ALL the post here and I have read some stuff that made me not want to touch those two options. But from now on bidpay is one of my options for sure. That will give buyers at least one fast payment method.
Thanks for the replys!! I really appreciate it.

BidPay and PayingFast.com are basically the same.
BidPay = Western Union money order.
PayingFast = Travelers Express money order.
If you register and advertise it as a way of payment then bidders will expect you to ship when you get the confirmation email.
I am registered with PayingFast. I do ship when I receive the confirmation email.
I am NOT registered with BidPay. I do NOT ship when I receive the confirmation email.
The only reason I am not registered with BidPay also is because my spouse works for Travelers express and well, I feel that I am supporting the income. (LOL).

richierich why do you NOT mail the pkg. when you receive the second email from BidPay. Have you had a problem with them? By reading what they wrote in the email it sounds like they have already sent the M/O. I'm going to mail the pkg. first thing in the morning. The whole point is so they can get their item faster. This sounds like the way to go without all the hassel of the other options. Besides you don't HAVE to even register.
Actually I'm glad this buyer did this now. I inched my way up the ladder a little bit today!! Not much but a LITTLE!!!

Usually BidPay's money order shows up in 3-4 days. I really don't know why I do not mail upon that confirmation email. Just never had. I guess when I received the very first one, I was like you and wondered what the heck is this. Since I do not advertise BidPay and am not registered with them I feel no oblogation until the payment arrives.
One time I did not receive a PayingFast money order. It was 10 days from the time I was told it was mailed. I forwarded the confirmation email to PayingFast. They ask me to wait 5 more days and gave me the money order #. I emailed them again on the 5th day and they priority mailed me a replacement money order.
Other then that I never had any problems with either company.
Maybe I will consider mailing BidPay items out with the confirmation email. But due to the fact they are a direct competitor or my spouses employer I will not register with them.

Shoot, I wouldn't either if I were in your shoes. I think both must be about the same and equal. I hope it helps with my sales. I must not be offering the right things. The few things I list are varied and always will be except on one item.
ANYWAY thanks for your comments. Got great advice today!

jdk156.
You hear alot of negative about online payment services because people that don't have problems generally don't post.
Paypal and billpoint have millions of users, how many posts do you see?
You will double your sales by offering a credit card option through Paypal or billpoint - I use Paypal.
Bidpay costs your buyer a minimum of $5.00 to buy that Money Order, so unless it's a high ticket item, I don't think you'll see it used much.
Good luck to you and I hope your business grows for you at the rate that you want.

I had never considered Bidpay, but I had an international buyer last week and he only pays by bidpay so I said what the heck, I'll try it once. His feed back was great. He paid immediately. Bidpay sent me a confirmation and I sent the item. Received the money order about the same time the international buyer received his item. Easiest transaction I ever had but of course it was the buyer that made it easy.

GOOD GRIEF!! The item was $8.99 + 8.80 S/ins. +$5.00 BidPay. And no I didn't pad the shipping - heavy box. BUT it was the buyer that did it. Guess they wanted it quick.
Yes I know I need to do something about my payment options. I plan to do that soon.
