Here is the question....You have an auction end and the total cost w/shipping is one penny over an even amount. IE, $10.01, $15.01 ect ect ect. Do you blow off the penny and use the even amount or does that make you look like you cannot add correctly? I would love to knock the one or two cents off these totals but I am afraid it will look unprofessional.

It is a dilemma, but this is what I do (and it may not be the best way).

If it's just an odd amount (15.81), I just leave it.

But if it is 15.01, or 26.03 - something like that - I state the correct total, and then in parantheses I add "feel free to 'round down' to 15.00 even". Some do, but more don't.

But I don't use any sort of invoicing program or software, so it might not work for those who do.

I have also just knocked a penny (or 3 cents or whatever) off the shipping before I total - instead of 18.16 plus plus 3.85 shipping, I have put 18.16 plus 3.84 shipping. It seems buyers only notice if you "overcharge".

If the cost is $10.01 or whatever, that is what I will charge them.

A penny may not sound like anything anymore, but they do and can add up.

Penny here and there is now $10.00, next its $ 20.00 and so forth.

It is amazing how fast they pile up.

<shakes head> You guys are always coming up with new ways to cheat yourselves. It's amazing.

We use our proprietary invoicing software and it doesn't care about odd amounts. I do care about odd amounts only in the sense that occasionally the only way I can identify a payment is by the amount. Odd numbers are good.

Why on earth wouldn't you charge the exact amount? The only people who mail dollar bills as payment (for the most part) are people in the radical anti-income tax movement and survivalists. I don't see where the issue is here.

One of the few places on earth where you can drive in with a fifty thousand dollar car and go home in a million dollar greyhound bus.

Life is just grand!
