I have seen several auctions for X boxes and Gamecubes where the auction price + the shipping goes way over the very fixed retail price. Why do people do that?

because people will pay that for various reasons.

housebound, live in the boonies, shopaholics, no commen sense. Lots of reasons.

Doh, I thought this was going to be a post about me! :p

Actually, once bidding gets competitive, people get REALLY stupid. A "person" I know that is no longer on Ebay, once shilled one of his auctions using 2 Ebay accounts. He bid back and forth between the 2 accounts until there was over 30 bids and the price was in the teens. He sold an item that normaly would sell for $5 or $10 for over $47.

There is an auction service where I live called 'Century Auctions' (I think it is a national chain actually). If you ever want to get top dollar for your stuff at a RL auction talk to these guys. They get better than NEW price for 90% of the stuff they sell. I am always amazed how people bid on thier stuff. The only thing I can think of is they have shill bidders get the bidding high at the beginning of the auction. After a few items people are just plain nuts. Like all auctions, at least there are a few good deals. I got a $60 shipping scale at the last one for $2 (I think everyone was completely broke by that point in the auction).

Happy Bidding!

It's a sport.

I was at a Police auction and they had a tv that couldn't be worth more than $200, started bidding at the highest price of $600, a young guy raised his hand and no one else of course bid, so he won it for $600.

Everyone is entitled to my opinion.

Today's Dumb Story:

I have a bidder who responded to the WBN, checked out and just has to pay....and keeps sending requests via ebay (every hour on the hour) for the total amount, even though it's right there on the checkout screen and I keep sending her a link to it.

IDIOT!

Then there is the idiot who keeps e-mailing me asking me if he can buy various items, and ship them to Asia/Indonesia/China wherever, always the same verbiege, sent from different e-mail addresses, different items, but the same text and I always say no and he keeps trying:

Text Follows:

"Hallo Sir,,
I interested with your item. i'll pay $390.00 and i want you shipp that item
to my shop in Asia. I'll pay for shippment cost. You can charge my credit card
for payment. But i don't want use paypal, bidpay, etc to process my credit card
as payment cause i ever lost much money at there. I can't make check or money
order cause i'm not in US this time and no near office at here to make that. If
you don't have charge machine maybe you can find at your family, friends or the
other who have charge machine for charge my credit card. If you agree with my
offer, i'll give you my credit card info and i hope you can find charge machine
for payment. I hope to hear from you soon. Thank's"

Funny part is that I traced his e-mail headers and he's e-mailing me from the mountain time zone....NOT indonesia.

*shakes head*
