I have 2 old computers that I was considering trying to sell some of the parts from. Is there anything I need to know about shipping, say, harddrives or ram?

First, RAM, hard drives, CPUs & motherboards, video cards, etc. can be destroyed by static charges that build up on the shipping material. Don't ship them in standard zip lock bags, bubble wrap or plastic wrap. That stuff can develop a static charge. You need a special plastic anti-static shipping pouch or wrap to protect the item. Now let me qualify that. I've been working with this stuff for over 15 years and I don't think I've ever seen a component zapped that way. But if an item arrives DOA and you didn't use it you're going to hard pressed to prove static charge didn't fry the item.
Second, when sold retail these items are usually shipped in an oversize cardboard box, with an inch or two of open air crush space on all sides. A computer shop in your area may give you this stuff if you ask nice. Good luck!

Good advice so far, also for Hard Drives, you want to make sure there is as little movement as possible.
Bouncing can be bad for them.
