DO NOT USE EBAY CHECKOUT!!!!! This is clearly posted in all of my auctions, yet I still have bidders that insist on using eBay checkout. Why? I even have, for shipping and payment instructions, "see item description for shipping and payment". I don't have shipping figured in eBay checkout. I figure the shipping from my zip to theirs. And AW figures the shipping for me. I don't charge additional handling charges. (That is free to my customers.) Yes, I can fill out the checkout for them, but I don't know if they want insurance or not. The checkout for AW is simple. I don't understand the problem. Do these people not read before they bid? Just the other day, I had a winning bidder that used eBay checkout. They sent me a money order for just the item, not shipping, because eBay doesn't have the shipping cost. I sent the WB a personal email asking them to use AW checkout the day the auction closed. They still didn't. They didn't even reply to that email. Instead, I get an email stating that they sent the payment for the item amount only because eBay didn't have the shipping included. Now, if that had been me, I would have emailed to find out the cost for shipping, or further instructions. I have no problem using checkouts. Why do some of my customers? Am I doing something wrong? Please help!

Turn it off. Go to My Ebay, click on the Preferences tab. Look under Seller Preferences then Update Checkout Preferences. Hope this helps.

You are absolutely right - people do not read instructions. We ask that people DO use Checkout, but hardly anyone does. We explain clearly and concisely how they can use Checkout to notify us of their method of payment, and that our mailing address is on the last step. We include shipping, etc., in the Checkout procedure and make it as simple and uncomplicated as possible, and yet people still e-mail us days later wanting to know what payment methods we accept, how much to pay, and where to mail payment.

Checkout could be a useful and time-saving tool, but only if winning bidders bothered to read a couple of sentences explaining how to use it. Guess we'll go back to our old method of e-mailing each and every winning bidder with instructions, (heavy sigh) a time consuming procedure. It's disheartening to witness how dense and lazy people can be sometimes.

Thanks for letting me vent on this annoying topic.

I use Ebay Seller Assistant, I can notify 100 bidders in about 7 minutes. Maybe less. It takes literally about 2 or 3 clicks to send them all the info they need to have.

To the seller, turn the option off. I did, and now nobody tries to pay that way because they CAN'T!!

Ebay Seller's Assistant is nice provided you don't use AOL. It won't work with that. At least the last time I used it (months ago), it wouldn't work. AOL is in a world all of it's own. I now use AuctionWatch. The small amount in fees I pay each month is well worth how organized it keeps me. I can custome my WBN and they are automatically sent. There I days I come home from work to find not only have the WBN's been sent, but people have paid and the payments have been recorded (as long as it's though Paypal). Great! I turned off Ebay's checkout a long time ago. Customers kept paying without waiting for the postage amount. What a pain! Made for twice the work.

Thank you all! I have turned off the checkout on eBay. I didn't realize I could do that. Shows how much I use eBay preferences. You have all been very helpful, and it's nice to know that it isn't just me.

You will need to go back from time to time to make sure it says off too. I now have had ebay turn on the checkout feature two different times. The last time was about a month ago. I had many people that couldn't get payments to me because of it. I didn't know that checkout was turned on and couldn't figure out what was going on as I copy and paste all of my auction winner info and that doesn't change. I finally had to have one of my winners forward the info he had received. Turns out it was the dammed ebay checkout. It was turned on by ebay again. It was so confusing that I couldn't believe it was even allowed online. After jumping through some hoops, I did get checkout shut off again and haven't had a problem since. BE SURE TO CHECK AND MAKE SURE IT IS TURNED OFF FROM TIME TO TIME.
