I got negged yesterday - on a piece of vintage (solid state) electronic equipment that was working fine when it left here. He did not contact me seeking a refund or adjustment. I know he had purchased a couple of others in the weeks prior to buying mine.

He paid with a credit card thru Paypal, I packed it extremely well and shipped to his confirmed address and UPS confirms delivery.

The buyer's feedback is 64 with 2 negs. He joined in August of this year. He made his feedback private since the auction but it wasn't when he bid.

I have blocked him from bidding on any more of my auctions.

Other than negging him is there anything else I need to do to protect myself ?

What comment did they leave with the neg? Might be a mistake on their part. You could ask but if this bidder is just trigger happy for whatever reason just reply in a calm matter.

Hang on to any and all proof of shipping in case they want to pull a fast one via paypal.

Comment said it was a broken piece of junk- and it worked flawlessly when it left here.
I have all my receipts and tracking numbers.

It caught me a bit off guard- I've been selling on eBay since 1998, and this is my first neg - hence my question.

I really don't have much sympathy or desire to work with someone who won't communicate a problem and try to resolve it in a civilized manner. I don't feel you owe this jerk much more than 30 seconds of yout time, which is about how long it will take to return that neg. Wait a day or two and consider your comment and response after you've calmed down a little. The idea is to leave a response that will make him look like an escapee from the local asylum, and to leave a neg that will make other sellers break the sound barrier to cancel his bids on their auctions. Use your literary talent wisely. You only have one shot at it, so make it count.

The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

I agree. I thought I would neg him later this week - take my time and think it over. Careful writing may be for nothing as he has converted his feedback to Private.
