In another post it was mentioned a package "got there anyway" so I thought we could share a few tales on the subject.

I sent a package three weeks ago to "Switzerland" and my customer wrote me a few days ago to tell me I had not addressed the package correctly. She lived in "Sweden" but the package had arrived after its trip to Germany and France first. Looks like a few people had their heads on straight at the post offices, the seller sure didn't.<G> I'm a "Senior", it happens......

Switzerland - Sweden.... What ever...

i live in Ohio and have been waiting on a small package from Canada since 10/3...it has gone back to the seller twice now and may never show up...thank god it was a very small price and totally unbreakable. I don't even remember what the items look like now.

It could have been worse, you could have addressed it to Swaziland.

....or S.W. Eden.

A few weeks ago I got a large book I ordered from Half.com . It was in one of those expensive mailers that have a lot of yucky gray insulation material as padding. The mailer looked like a pitbull had attacked it and the post office taped it up and put a "found in this condition' sticker on it. The amazing part was the book was unharmed.

Saturday, I left the house and went to a small rural town with a nice antique district. I had fun, though the merchants had long faces from lack of sales.

I got home, and on my voice mail was an agitated message from an elderly lady in Sarasota, Florida, clear on the other side of the nation from me. The message was unclear to me, something about a package, and her name and phone number.

I call her long distance, and she says the post office delivered this package to her, but it isn't her name or address and what is she supposed to do with it. The only two words bearing a resemblance to her address are Sarasota Florida. She said the address on the package is clear on the other side of the city.

She read me the name on the label. I didn't recognize it and I was thinking, oh golly, is this the $300 Sevres plate or the $165 demi cup, ... My sales were good this Christmas.

I get the lady's email address, hang up, do my research and it is a $1.25 book on golf that sold on half.com. Figures.

Sent the buyer an email through eBay telling him what happened. Sent the concerned lady in Florida an email and asked her to put the bubble envelope back in the mail with a postit note to the mailman explaining it was delivered to the incorrect address.

A little bit off subject - the other day I was stopped cold trying to remember the abbreviation for Alaska. Let's see--AL is Alabama, AZ is Arizona, AR is Arkansas?, and -- ta daaaa, AK is Alaska! Felt like a fool, but then it IS confusing, isn't it?!

When I was in the 5th grade I memorized all 50 states and their capitals but the zip codes weren't in place yet and the state abreviations were almost all longer than 2 characters. California was Calif.

It should not matter how screw up you were on the state abreviation. All (USA) mail sorting is done by zip code, so even if you had a package going to Alaska, and you addressed it AL, as long as the zip code (or even better zip + 4) was right, it will get there..............
