... but I never checked on what they would be.

I just got my new rate book and WOW, didn't imagine that the change would be that much.

How do they compare with FedEx Ground?? 1# in Zone 2 is $3.39. Zone 8 is $4.18. Home delivery charge is $1.15, rural is another $1.75. Not cheap either.

I looked at there rates on the ups website. They are now exactly the same as Fedex ground.
Fedex ground used to be a slightly cheaper on over 100LB packages but now they seem to match exactly.
But if you don't have a fedex acount and just pay when you ship, Fedex is still cheaper since they don't charge a counter fee.
If you wanted to save a little on shipping you could use Airborne ground but I won't because I don't like the type of delivery people they hire around here.(there trucks also look dingy)

My book says UPS Ground to a residential address was $4.33 for a 1 lb to Zone 2. Now it is $5.90.

A 2 lb to Zone 8 went from $5.75 to $7.95.

I was charging a flat rate for all UPS Ground shipments, but now I'm probably going to calculate on order.

Is there anything I can add to my listings that would let a user enter their Zipcode and it would tell them the total S/H?

I just processed a rate check on UPS for our standard 3.5 lb package and found the rates went up about .30c but what was interesting is that the shipments are now "day" guaranteed. Here's the info off the site.

"
***UPS guarantees the day of delivery for every ground package you ship to any address within the 48 contiguous states, except for any ground package originating in Alaska or Hawaii. In addition, the guarantee applies to shipments from Puerto Rico to the 48 contiguous states. "

This has been an ongoing issue with me for years as I ship and sometimes the package won't arrive to the customer for two weeks. I had shipments sent to me on 12/17 that just arrived today. So the new policy might be very good as I always collect on next day or two day air when the shipment doesn't arrive on the day guaranteed.

Here are the residential rates they list on there website. http://www.ups.com/using/software/newrates/rate-pdf/gndres.pdf
They have such a screwy setup with there rates. You have to go through all the stuff about if you get charged a weekly fee or not before you get to the rate part.
They started saying they guaranteed delivery a few months ago. Fedex must have been taking too much business away from them since they have always guaranteed the delivery day. And to boot, with Fedex you get saturday delivery at no extra cost for residential delivery.

Thanks sapington... I have never seen the rates printed out that way. I've been using the "click it" method on the UPS web site.

The rates aren't too bad but all the tack it on delivery charges and gas tax and what evers bring the cost up several bucks.

I save a bit as I go direct to the customer counter about 5 miles away and the rates are a little lower for a business return address.

tfs13: Do you have an acct with FedEx Ground? I am reading from the new rate book, page 99. A 1# pkg. zone 2 is 33.39+1.15 home delivery which comes to $4.54.
Sapington: Are you nsaying that FedEx Ground has Sat. delivery? Never heard of that.

Yes, the normal Fedex home delivery days are tuesday thru saturday. (they skip monday unless specially requested). If you are using the preprinted barcodes they send, I would switch to a different way since I don't think you can use home delivery that way and the surcharge would be $.25 extra.
A lot of people like the way that home delivery also delivers till 9pm and they can be there when it is delivered. (costs extra to be guaranteed late delivery)
