Or the production server for shippingapis.com? (IP is 164.109.64.189) I can ping it but it doesn't respond to Shipping Assistant v.2.2.

I had a number for support for the Internet Customer Care Center but can't find it now. Anyone else have this phone number?

Thanks.

Found the phone number: 1-800-344-7779.

Those who use Shipping Assistant should save this number. You'll probably need it some day.

Still don't know what's causing this, but the ICCC rep says there is no known outage. Sigh.

Oh, and he says the reason I can't get usps.com is that they don't support Netscape.

I have been on Shipping Asst just about all day, off and on, with no problem.

That's the first time I have heard that they don't support Netscape; however I use IE...guess when all else fails, blame the browser?

edited to add - thanks for the # fluffy - never know when I will need it

I use Netscape (4.7 & 7.0) & it works for me.

I think "we don't support Netscape" is the $7 per hour minimum wage CS support drone answer.

I couldn't get to uspswebtools.com using Explorer for the Macintosh, either. So much for Netscape being the problem.

I finally got there using Explorer inside Virtual PC. I'm reinstalling the whole Shipping Assistant v2.2 on another computer (in Virtual PC) to see if that solves the problem.

(It didn't.)

Yes, the same Service Reps that when you tell them your operating system is NT 4.0, say it is not supported (since they don't have a clue what is it)

Lordie, I'm feeling older by the minute; but h*ll, if it aint't broke why fix it.........

Thanks to all those who chimed in yesterday on the problem I was having with Shipping Assistant and getting to usps.com. The problem was a badly-configured router interface at my cable modem provider. Fortunately my partner is a network engineer and was able to send them the data required to resolve the problem. But I have to wonder, what happens to the people who don't have technical assistance close at hand? I was down for 24 hours as it was.

It's a scary thought. I'm thinking of having DSL installed so that I'd always have at least one solid Internet connection. I think it's about $45.00 a month here now.

Anyway, thanks again.

Fluffy,
If your phone service is on copper wire and above ground think twice about DSL. Verizon gets a call from me at least twice a month for no dial tone on one or other of my lines. The usual excuse is that the "squirrels" chewed through the wires. Interestingly, they only get hungry after a storm or temperature change! The neighbors and I have a standing joke about whose service will go out next. My husband insists on keeping a DSL. I, however, have moved to cable modem.

Good point, jensmome. Ideally I'd have both DSL and a cable modem. Our demarc is in the attic, so the phone line is in squirrel freeway territory. The cable modem connection comes in on the second floor, too, but no Rocky or Bullwinkle problems yet.

JensMom, The squirrels do eat wire above ground and the rabbits under buildings. Hubby has been with GTE for over 30 years and you would not believe the damage they do. Also the little hanging bags on the overhead lines, containe, snakes, bats and small birds...don't ask how many times he has been startled on top of a pole, with only a couple of falls. Oh the stories I could tell.....hehehehe

Landotters,
Oh I do believe it! There's a transformer a few doors down and when the power co. came to do routine maintenance they had to call and exterminator. Seems there was a huge colony of bats. My complaint with my phone co. is that it can't always be squirrels. My property is loaded with oaks and we back onto parkland. If these squirrels got any fatter they couldn't climb!
