I found on my feedback this morning a neutral feedback from a buyer whose auction closed on Nov. 27th. First payment seems to have been lost in the mail, many emails, second finally arrives exactly one week ago. I mail item the same day, so it has been less than a week. Comment she left on the feedback "Item arrived, slow delivery over 30 days" What feedback would you leave in return. I have refrained from leaving a quick response, and written to tell her how upset I am. o.k. so a neutral is not that bad, but it's ME whose been waiting almost 6 weeks for the payment!!

Respond to the neutral with regard to the lost mail.
Contact the buyer give them a chance to respond in feedback and agree that the mail was lost.
If they won't cooperate then neuter them.

response to the neutral:
pmt rec'd 30 days after auction end, item SHIPPPED W/IN 24hrs OF PMT RECEIPT.
your comment for her:
NEG
*SELLER BEWARE* took 30+ days to pay, then NEGGED seller

Or so they claim. Just post slow payment, over 30 days. Why waste your time to write them? The damage is done. Time to move on.
No matter how you look at this, a neutral is a neg in disguise. Thats what I would leave them.
Wish ebay would just get rid of that.Pos or neg only.

I recently had a buyer post a positive feedback for me but they put "slow shipping" in the comment. I responded with "item shipped the morning following receipt of money order". I pondered how I would respond in feedback for them. In the end I decided not to leave feedback at all.

What gets me is that is always seems to be the ones that you bend over backwards to accomodate that end up stabbing you in the back.

Yes, it sure does seem that way. I was up late that night packing his item and then got up early the next morning to drop it in the mail and that was the thanks I got. At least it wasn't a neg or neutral.

It really doesn't matter if they left you a neutral or a neg. If they made no attempt to contact you first to discuss their dissatisfaction , but instead blindsided you with bad feedback, there is only one proper thing to do. Leave a big fat neg that will warn every seller this person may deal with in the future what type of whacko they have bidding on their auction.
The light at the end of the tunnel will turn out to be an oncoming train.

This is the message I got back from the buyer asking for an explanation for the neutral feedback.
"I left neutrl response only because it took so long from close of auction until the time I received it. I apoligize for this as yes some of it was my fault also as I took so long to email you back to find out if payment was received by you. If you like you can also leave me neutral feedback and I will understand but I don't beleive I should receive negative feedback as everything else was ok with transaction. I only give negative feedback when I don't receive an item I paid for which has already happened to me twice and one I had to send payment twice for same item as cash never got received for some reason. I give positive feedback if I receive very good service within 30 days of auction"
This is my answer to it.
"I appreciate your comments, but I disagree with you that you do not deserve negative feedback. I did everything right in this situation. I waited patiently 40 days for payment. I received your payment the evening of the 7th, and asked my husband who was rushing around trying to pack to go to England the next morning to see his father before he died, to go to the post office to mail your package so that you wouldn't have to wait, because I am disabled and couldn't do it myself. In spite of this, I still got a negative comment. I want you to know that I am not going to give you negative feedback as a retaliation for the neutral feedback you gave me. I have thought very carefully about it, and got the advise of others, and I feel that it is my duty to warn other sellers that if they sell to you, and do everything right, that they still stand the chance of getting a negative comment. I am not a vindictive person, and I really feel that in this transaction I MORE than deserved praise, instead I got an underserved negative comment on my record."
I intend leaving negative feedback today, and adding her to my blocked buyers list. I am tired of people who leave negative comments so lightly. I had another a couple of weeks ago, and her comment was "she forgot the package was coming from Canada and would take a bit longer"
People need to THINK before they leave negative comments!!!

Yeah, but the problem is that this would damage their brains or whatever is left of them.

Good for you, I would have no hesitation leaving a negative in this situation. They are unhappy about taking more than 30 days, when they took over 40 days to get to you! Lost in the mail, yeah right.
I once got a neutral from someone on half where the item (the box) was described as damaged, and they complained it was damaged - duh!!! Well, I left a neg, they were not happy, but they shouldn't have purchased it since it was described properly...
