That's it no more checks or money orders. Tired of:

1) Chicken scratch passing as letters and numbers
2) No item number included with payment
3) No return address

Business is streamlining, no more paper payments! All electronic from now on. I won't refuse paper payments, but I'm not advertising it in any of my listings. (Yes, idiot buyers will send you paper payments even if you don't advertise.)

! All electronic from now on.

Wish you luck on this, but you will lose out on bidders when you limit yourself to just paypal.
I like the instant payments also, but one can get the truly clueless there as well.

The one thing in your favor is that there are a lot of sellers doing just that.[electronic payments]

I was wondering if someone else felt the same way I do. We have taken checks for over two years and it hasn't been so bad. Until lately.
Usually out of say, 10 transactions 6 are paypal/billpoint 2 cashier's check, 1 personal check.
This month it has been an average of 6 checks/4 others. In EVERY case where they are going to send a check, they will not respond to e-mails, fill out the wbn, or SEND THE CHECK. Some of them drag around for 2 weeks before they send payment. I had one send payment 68 days after eoa. Our auction states that payment must be received within seven days of EOA. i know it takes a while to get to my location from some places, so we're really flexible with it. We had to call 2 winners last week. 1 auction ended @499.00 the other @459.99, they both claimed to be sending a check. Haven't seen either one, although one wrote today to ask what our address was. Never mind that it's on the WBN that they finally got around to filling out (after I sent it 4 times) GRRRRR

Wish you luck on this

Thanks trai. We do take all forms of CC, but that is rarely utilized by eBay buyers. I realize I will lose some buyers, but mostly sell in the computer category. Most buyers tend to be savvy enough to understand how the electronic payment process works. The electronics category has less savvy people, and it probably goes down further in other categories. Its really not the buyers, but just the lack of time on my part and irratibility from insomnia. But not having to research an unthoughtful buyer's payment does direct my focus in unwanted areas.

I only take P/P, Mo's & BidPay. Have never taken personal checks. I agree, P/P is the best. Fast pay & no hassle over late payments. After 10 days I give warning for NPB, 5 days later they get it. I am tored of SLOW or NO pays

i have seen sellers who dont accept paypal for the reason they dont want any returns or chargebacks.once you fork over a check or money order, you get whatever they sent you.

money is money,i have only one bad check in 7 years i cannot recover.
i ship the day i receive their personal check,no problem, the pain and penalty of rubber check is more for them than for me.
let them send us the money anyway they want, all are welcome.
look at it this way, sending you a money order or personal check saves you paypal fee,and these are the conservative prudent buyers who will keep buying.

You probably will be ok in electronics or computers, as I would not make a purchase any other way but credit card. I do prefer to use electronic payment, but I do have to tell you that I am a little suspicious of those who do not take checks or money orders. While some people are feeling comfortable enough bidding on ebay, they may not feel comfortable enough to use paypal. I personally would rather no limit my auction appeal if possible...

I quit taking checks about 2 years ago and untill last week thought that PayPal was great. Right now I have $112.00 held in my PayPal account because a jerk from Canada filed a complaint that he has not recieved his item. It was mailed 2 weeks ago. This jerk was leaving for a 2 week vacation so he won't know if it comes so he decieded to file the complaint in case it is not there when he returns.

Now I am thinking of no longer taking PayPal and I will never sell out of the USA again. This is the 3rd Canadian to cause me problems.

I know, you'd think Canadians would know items take time to deliver from USA. Don't hold your best delivery time as the standard to judge all other deliveries. International buyers that ask for a tracking number when I state in two different e-mails that there is none are just plain lazy. And I love the ones that send you funds in their native currency instead of USD. They are the biggest idiots and deserve to have their heads chopped off!

ahc3, I am a little suspicious of those who do not take checks or money orders

Why is that? Personally, its the opposite for me. If the seller only accepts checks and money orders I'm suspicious for the same reasons stopwhining stated.

I am a Canadian seller, and approx 98% of my buyer pays me in their native currency, U.S. dollars, never a problem! If our banks can change U.S currency, I wonder why U.S. banks can't change Canadian currency?

It just seems to me that someone who won't take payment via check or money order might be a little too mobile for me - Just seems easier to commit fraud if you have less of a trail. Paypal takes all of 45 seconds to set up and get going, they don't verify you before you start business. I know I might be protected, maybe. Yes, fraud is fraud, and someone can cash a check and money order and commit fraud too. I like to see a merchant who gives me more choices of payment though.

Amber, I think the problem is that they send the auction ended price in their native currency - not taking into account the exchange rate. It happened once to me when someone bought an item that ended at $110.00 and they sent me 110.00 euros. it worked out ok in my case, but for the Canadians paying in Canadian money instead of US dollars there's a pretty big difference.

If they are a major USA bank they can, for a fee, take any money (but not checks in non USA$). I have taken many kinds of money but you must be carful of fees and exchange rates. If someone wants to send non USA money I call my bank for rate and fees and bill them to buyer. About one year ago I got around 1100.00 dollars in Lira shipped in a small box! Works for me

Well, I completely understand. I am having a problem with a first time buyer. First, I received an e-mail stating that the check got "lost in the mail". I finally received the check today and here's the e-mail I received....

Hey it is Samantha (not real name) - I purchased the widget from you. I have lost your e-mail address. But I wanted to see if you recieved my check and if so if you would not cash it until wed. of next week. I am in the middle of transfering banks. Since mine has been giving me all these unnecessary fees. Please e-mail me back XXXX@XXXXX.
Thanks,
Samantha

Because most U.S. banks don't have wheelbarrows for hauling around the amount of Canadian currency it takes to equal one U.S. dollar.

Yeah, those unnecessary overdraft fees are a real nuisance. I'm sure another bank will be nicer and more understanding.

This is known as the "I can't be overdrawn, I still have checks left" excuse.

But what's important here is that you have not been paid. A check is just a slip of paper if you can't cash it. File NPB now.

HAHAHAHAHA!!!

OMG! Im sooo glad im not the only one that has to deal with idiots! 95% of my customers are FU%$#@ IDIOTS!Hardley ever do they reply to the wbns. The wbns just sit in there mailbox for a week.See this is what I dont understand.WHAT IS SO HARD ABOUT REPLYING TO A WINNING BIDDER NOTIFICATION!!??

Then they ask me what my address is?And heres the winner right here after 2 weeks of not responding to the wbn.

"Do you except Paypal???"

..............................

um ok....THERE IS A PAYPAL LOGO WHERE IT SAYS WHAT PAYMENTS I EXCEPT!! JACK AS$!!

THESE PEOPLE ARE EITHER BLIND OR THEY JUST CANT READ!!

One time this chick never replied to the wbn and never sent money so of corse after being more then patient,I left negative feedback. Then she leaves me negative feedback saying she sent payment shed better recieve her item.

And here is the biggest one of all....

1 scumbag bought a 15.00 Final Fantasy action figure from me and paid with Paypal.
3 days later I get an Email from Paypal saying that that bidder paid with FRAUDULANT FUNDS.So I had a negative in my Paypal account and I had to pay 21.00 to cover the negative becouse paypal threatened me by telling me there going to take me to court if I didnt pay for the negative soon.So in in actuality I paid for that SHMUCK to get a free action figure....

So this goes out to all the scumbag consumers out there...

STAY AWAY FROM MY STORE,MY WEBSITE,AND MY EBAY AUCTIONS!

My ebay Id id bigcityclbs..My Store url is http://www.bigcitycollectables.com

Thank you

Yeah, me neither. There's not much of a market for them, what with the vast surplus we have currently.
