This is getting interesting so I thought I'd share. It concerns the small dish on the bottom left (photo below). Turns out it is Japanese just as I suspected. Got the following response from one of the experts I email photos of it to:
Hi Cheryl. Sorry that we couldn't return sooner. Yes the plate is upside down, and yes it is Japanese. The pattern, handwritten hiragana script, isn't easy to read, even for our Japanese members. Could you tell me where and when you came by this item? Thanks for contacting us.
Will be interesting to see how many more I've stumped. I've returned their email with where I bought the piece. Sounds to me like it just might be something. Anyone else get that same feeling by the response I got? Wow, I've stumped even the Japanese.

They may just be very curious about the writting on the plate. That may mean a valuable item but may only mean that they may just be very curious about the writting on the plate.

No matter what it is, it's found a home in with my Chinese porcelain collection. I collect Chinese, my brother collects Japanese. I now have to keep it out of his hands.

Cheryl- I need to ask you a question. I have a stone with either chinese or Japanese writings on it. it is about1 1/4 inches thick and 2 1/4 inches square with rounded corners. It is in a leather pouch. I have had it for a couple of years not knowing what it is I can't sell it, When I get a picture I will put it on.

I hope I did this right.
Cheryl - If you can shed some light on this I would appreciate it. The stone is smooth on top but rough on the botton. It is 1 1/4 inches thick and 2 1/4 inches square with round corners. I can't remember where I bought it but I thought it was interesting and I think I paid a quarter for it. I am a big spender.
I will get back to you tonight. This computer at work uses dial up and is impossibly slow. I'll look the marks up when I get home to see if I can decifer them.
