Since we can't have the PayPal payment option listed at the top of our auctions anymore unless we use PayPal Checkout, I found this worked for me:

I went into my ebay preferences, to the box where I give my location (city, state, whatever). There was just enough room after my city and state to put in all caps: I TAKE PAYPAL! I wasn't sure if it'd be allowed, but it's there now and sure does stand out. Just an idea. And if you've already thought of this or done it, please ignore the above posting!

This is what I put in my Payment instructions.

I will send you an email after I receive eBays EOA notice. Please wait for my instructions. If you wish to pay instantly by PayPal click the logo at the end of the auction page but please remember to add the postage. Thanks

It works for me.....

Neglus: A week or so ago, some of us noticed that the PayPal payment option (in the top section of your auction, where the # of bids, your location, etc. etc. is) was missing. We posted in Vendio's Sales Manager community board. After much to and fro, we were told Ebay has changed the rules and we can only have "PayPal" in the TOP part of the auction, with the other payment options, if we're using PayPal Checkout (with the PayPal Checkout button) in the EOA when the auction is through. Disgusting, but there it was, and I hope it wasn't misinformation from Vendio.

The thread over there was titled "PayPal Option MIssing". Take a close look at your auctions and see if the PayPal option is in the top section.

That's why I've come up with my own solution, and thought others would be interested.

Libra: I too have the PayPal stuff in my payment instructions at end of auction. I'm talking about when you first launch your auction. There's a line in red that gives your payment options accepted. PayPal used to be there, now it isn't. I am very anxious that would-be bidders know they can use PayPal and I can't count on their scrolling to the very end of my auction description to see that PayPal is indeed permitted. This is why some of us, a week or so ago, were so disturbed. Now I've found my own solution to that. Look at your auctions and see if it's there at the top of the launch page.

Okay I looked at your auction and you are missing some checks in your seller preference. Go to your account and then to seller preference about 1/4 - 1/2 way down the page there is a Payment Type Accepted. Go in there and check PayPal then it asks for ID then below there are to questions check the one you want. I used the last one as I send out personal WBN and I don't use checkout. Go in and look at mine and see what you will get when you check that box. It is in the top half of the page across from the payment method. Do you know my user ID if not tell me and I will write it here.

I still have PayPal in red at the top of my auctions...and PayPal button at the top of ones that closed...i never "signed up" for PayPal checkout...I don't "get" it..is it because you use Vendio checkout?

Neglus: I believe that if you have the PayPal button on your closed auctions (at the top), you're considered to be using PayPal Checkout, according to the Vendio moderators! I know this is all very confusing. I haven't changed any preferences with PayPal and I sure don't use Vendio Checkout. Hmmmm.

Libra: I'll look at my preferences again. But last two times I did, I couldn't have PayPal in the new auction at the top unless I agreed to use PayPal Checkout! What is your user name?

what IS paypal checkout beyond the button at top to link directly to PayPal at auction end? Maybe its the caffeine, but isn't this what you want?

Libra: Okay, I've looked. I see where I check PayPal and give my ID, which I've done all along.

But I didn't check the second option (PayPal Checkout button) because I'd heard (somewhere) that PayPal Checkout is complicated and that it encourages winners of auctions even under 10 or 15 dollars to use PayPal when I'd rather they don't. If this isn't true, and there is no real PayPal checkout procedure people get confused by, I'm more than willing to check that second option in the preferences site! Let me know if it's been a hassle for you and your buyers, please.

Now, that all being said, even if this gets solved for me, I may well keep the PayPal bit in my city/state location area! It does stand out.

Oh, and thanks for your help, Libra!

Looks like you already got the answer Roadsmith - no PayPal checkout is simply the click on the link button at top of the auction. I know my s/h charges so it works well for me - I can see if you don't know those ahead of time why you might not want to use it.

Neglus: I'm willing to do what you suggest! I just need reassurance that buyers of low-end things won't go automatically to that PayPal checkout and not see my "payment instructions" box asking for check or money order, not PayPal, for items ending under $10.

No caffeine this time of night, Neglus! I'm up too late now, as it is.

I think that is a good idea when it is up there as people will see that. There are a lot of buyers that want PayPal only and I don't blame them as it is their protection. Now if everyone that uses PayPal would use their charge card instead of the funds,it would be better for the buyer. What they need is protection from the dishonest sellers.

I don't use anybodies checkout and I don't think my buyers get any notice except from eBay and myself and I have the bottom one checked.

Here we are again in the middle of the night, burning the midnight oil.

Neglu, I sell mostly collectibles with variable shipping $$ depending on buyer's zip code. I don't know the shipping ahead of time, unfortunately. When a buyer clicks the PayPal button, does that take him to a page where he has to know the shipping charges in order to pay? I'm afraid that would count me out, then. Shucks.

I don't use any checkout. Don't you have to have PayPal check out checked over at PayPal if you want to use it. Ebay wouldn't just put that in. I don't have it checked at PayPal and I don't have Vendio checked either so I am hoping that my buyers only get my WBN. My user ID is bracelet...

yes it takes them right to "send payment" sign-in place at PayPal and has the winning bid amount filled in and also the s/h if you indicate that you know it in your listing...I don't think it would work very well for variable shipping rates but I may be wrong - maybe someone else has advice about that.

Libra - No i think you don't have to signup for PayPal checkout - I think it really is just a link to PayPal send payment signin and this is an eBay option. Check your closed auctions..does the PP button appear at the top of the listing? If it does, then you are using PP checkout and don't know it.

I hadn't noticed this before, but you all are right and the "I accept PayPal" thingy is missing up top. What is eBay doing? They buy PayPal and then make it harder for people to pay with it? Huh? What am I missing? Maybe someone with a pipeline to eBay could weigh in on this. Marshall

Libra with the Paypal checkout, you didn't have to opt for it, you had to opt out of it. you need to check your preferences in Paypal.

I don't think the PP checkout option is offered by PP..it isn't really a check-out! Just a button link that is opted in when you list your items..you would change your Vendio Global preferences "payment options" to the first Paypal option (Vendio's recommendation) and not the second (which will insert the button link when your auction closes). From the sounds of it, if you check the first option, you don't get the "paypal" in red at the top of your listing - this is what started this conversation in the first place! Your right neglus I didn't have any checked so I went in and did the second one because I don't want anyone's checkout and it appeared. I like payments from PayPal and I wish everyone would use them. As I stated if they pay by credit card, which they should, their purchase would be protected. I like protection....

Thanks, everybody, for helping me wrestle with this "problem." I guess I'm just steamed that PayPal is no longer given at the top as an option UNLESS we've opted for the PayPal Checkout button.

And that's why I fiddled with my "location" lines and fit in the PayPal message, as I explained in the first posting here. Try it if you'd like. And no harm in having it PLUS the PayPal Checkout button if that works for you, too.

Libra: I've looked at one of your auctions and see how the PayPal thing shows up when the auction is over. I'm a bit leery of that, but I think I'll try it with 5 auctions sometime soon and see if there's a problem. Thanks for helping, kiddo.

That Rush Limbaugh tie you sold was really something. I'll bet you're glad to have it out of your house. He is Some Piece of Work.

If you have it turned off and someone searches ebay by auctiona accepting paypal, your items won't show up.
If you don't use any other checkout system then it doesen't hurt to leave it on. It doesen't send any other emails but I think htere is a pay now button in the ebay EOA email.

Sapington: I didn't even know that people could search for auctions that accept Paypal. But you're right, my current auctions don't show up when I search that way. Hmmmm.

Roadsmith, I do great with Rush Limbaugh ties. I have sold many. If you noticed I had two of them on this week. The Blue and Gold one didn't do as good because it is a newer tie. That is still a good profit for me. Men are so easy to sell to. They start bidding early but some also snipe.

I am not going to get into the person Rush. That will start another debate....
