Are you listing like crazy on Ebay too or isn't this worth your time?

I'm listing alot of stuff I hadn't run yet. I've got alot of inventory,so I don't have that much to lose. Still got plenty for the Flea this week-end. Hope to get some good buys as well.

Didn't experience a high sell-through rate this week after busting my hump to get listings up for the half-price listing craze. I'm going to attribute it to the larger-than-normal number of listings -- so,

NO... not listing like a fool this week....

The listings are actually declining on this promotion. In a way that's good because maybe ebay can now justify permantly cutting in half the listing fees of the BIN and items starting under $10.
When Half.com goes away all of those listings will have to go somewhere and 30 cents a pop is a stiff fee for slow moving items like books.

Ace;

Are the listings actually declining naturally, or are the listings from last weeks "discount" auction listings just ending? I'm sure that the discount listings from last week had to bump up the listing counts significantly.

I personally prefer the fixed price listings and am listing much more stuff this time than I did on the discounted listing day last week.

As with all things eBay, I guess it depends on what you sell.

You're right. There were about 1.5 million extra listings from the last 1/2 off sale and they are still ending now. Many of those auctions may have been extended to 10 days as well. Most of the 1.5 million extra listings came in the last 12 hours of the promotion so we may not see the true effects of this promotion for another 24 hours or so.
I can not understand the two reduced insertion price promotions being so close together. It's almost like they ebay CPAs are experimenting on the effects of various promotions?

I don't like fixed price format so I am just sitting back and watching last weeks wind down.

My sell through rate is about 50% of usual so I guess you get what you pay for

Curious, what are you guys selling?

Taking a poll -- what the heck are you putting up on Ebay?

Listing mostly books on the promotion days. If it hasn't sold twice with a regular auction format then it's worth 15 cents to sell it at a fixed price. It's amazing how many buyers will skip the wait of a regular auction but will buy something when it's a click away. I think all of the sniping that goes on at the last minute has helped BIN auctions as the newbies know they won't lose out to a sniper.

I sell postcards and record albums. When I put a fixed price or BIN on my albums I do not get any bids. Maybe they think it is a reserve or something. Very strange but I have tried it twice.

With postcards I wouldn't even try it. I never know what they will wind up going for and don't want to take any chances. Only a few will get more than one bid, but if two people really want it then it can go much higher than I would have guessed.

I sell rubber stamps & as I said in another post I always sell 95 to 100% just about every week.

Things changed this week, a lot of my stamps didn't sell, it's the worst one I've had since I've been selling stamps. I have no idea if it had anything to do with the 50% listing fee, all were good sellers in the past.

More questions -- this is very interesting because I never imagined Ebay as being a place for stamps and postcards.

Always thought of Ebay as a collectibles, rare items, high ticket items site.

Do you guys sell anywhere else? or strictly ebay?

mcjane - My girlfriend wanted me to tell you the quietness in the craft area seems to be also happening in the stores and on the chat boards. She comes from the craft industry and keeps up on what's going on.

Seems the boards have been very quiet too. Those that do stop in and post are saying they've been busy with family stuff or creating. Also store owners in the DFW area noticed a bit of a decline last week when Michael's opened the first of the ReCollections stores.

She thinks that things will begin to pick up again right after the middle of next month. The second largest craft trade show is here next month and that usually recharges the stores and then the customers.

The coming July 4 holiday may have something to do with slowing sales... This may be an attempt by Ebay to combat a slowing of listings because of the holiday. Does anyone agree?

Salgal: Postcards and stamps are highly collectible items. There are hundreds of thousands of them listed . The sell through rate is low, but I have a large collection and just play around with it.

Most of my customers are people who lived in the city, worked there etc. Some got married in churches featured on my post cards, one guy still works in the park maintaining an old swimming pool (rebuilt now he says) that was featured on an early 1940's card.

Nice group of people, but rarely lots of money in it. I have been selling the lower end collectibles since I started on Ebay way back in 1998.
