Thought I would take a poll. I tend to use 2 - 4 photos even in a simple auction. It is rare that I only use 1. Do you think you can overkill with photos? I try not to get carried away because time is money and taking photos sure uses the time up that you could be writing up auctions.

Thanks in advance for all the input.

If it is a cheapie item and common enough to be recognized, why overdo the listing expenses?

Sometimes I only use one unless the item has to be seen from different angles. (Its nice to just have to put one though.)

The only time I use a lot of pictures would be for a jewelry lot or collectible items that warrant it. I recently sold 2 Beatles scrapbooks and had many, many photos. There were important pages in the book that helped to sell the item.

This is a stupid question but does Vendio charge per photo? I knew or thought ebay did but I didn't think Vendio did. If that is the case I will start trimming it down on the photos.

I never bid on auctions with less than 47 pictures

Paws, they charge .5 cents less than Ebay if you DO NOT use Selling Manager to list the item.

Paws....nope...Vendio does not charge for extra photos. However, if you relist through ebay, Vendio will charge you for hosting the images. I had that happen several times when I couldn't relist through Vendio for whatever reason.

As usual, I'm dittoes with Libra on this. 2 - 6, usually, although I've been known to use 8! Only one in 200 auctions gets only one picture. Because I can do it for no extra expense. Because I love Vendio. I looooove Vendio.

You will find that if you can combine some of your photos into one photo that you will get a better page view to bid ratio. One big problem with adding extra photos is they take a long time to load. Ebay did a study a couple of years ago and found if a bidding page took more than an average of 48 seconds to load, the person looking for the item will usually hit the back button and look at the next item. Remember that the majority of the users on the net do not have DSL or Cable modems and are using dial up which tends to be slow. I personally found that to be true about a year and a half ago. I used to use backgrounds in my auction to make them look spruced up only to do an experiment and remove the backgrounds to see what would happen. It didn't take long to see the results. Sales went up over 25% and that was the only change I had made. Without the background, the pages loaded quicker and potential bidders stuck with the auctions. Then I started combining photos with similar results. No with all of my auctions, if it calls for more than one photo, I always try and combine them to keep the page loads faster. The best thing to do is to experiment to see what is working for you keeping in mind that the majority of your potential customers probably have slow internet service.

But stone - why would one large photo load faster that several small ones?

Do you do this on purpose?

Stonecold613======

This is what I started to think. Too many people are on dial-up and it takes forever to load if you have more than a couple of photos. On some things I know it is necessary to use several shots to have full impact of what they are bidding on.

I have cable internet and have run across a few auctions that took forever to load so I backed out just like you said. I keep my auctions pretty clean and to the point so they are informative and not bogged down.

I haven't figured out how to use the photo software to make a collage of photos yet. I like it better than the program that came with my camera though. I really need to work on that to save load time and hopefully increase the bids.

Small enough files can be made.
It depends on the item, but my average is 3-6

Paws - if you use Photoshop there is an option when saving called "Save for Web" - this option optimizes your file for quality and size creating very small files which load in no time.

I have used up to 12 photos for certain items, although I normally only use 4 - 5 pics on most auctions. If you use Vendio and choose the resize option, your pages will load quite fast. What you have to watch out for are the templates, some of them can take a very long time to load.

sparkz------

I use the blank template and do have the resize option checked on preferences. Maybe my auctions load fairly quickly when they are viewed.

I rarely use Vendio's templates anymore because I don't like any of them. Most are pretty cheesy. A couple of them I use on occasion. I just use "buttons" as dividers between the description, S/H, and TOS. I try hard to keep it simple. I know people don't read most of what is on the page so why waste the time and space. When I get into an auction that has 5 pages of TOS, weird background and even a midi I back out.

I found a great site that has "buttons" by the ton so I copied a few to use as dividers. The owner has the best I have ever seen and they are free. She does ask that you give her credit and have a link to her site. There is a way to duplicate them and make a small line divider but that is too much trouble for me.

The address didn't work. I will look it up later and post it.

This site is great. On the left is the index by color. Each color has the very same buttons but in the color indicated in the index.

I wish Vendio had some simple frames for templates. Just two lines forming a frame but maybe one in a narrow lacey design, one a deco and maybe one in just two heavy lines. Then if they had several color choices for the frames. This would create a frame for the auction but be very simple without all the foo foo. I really like Vendio's service but don't like the templates.
