How major a deliquent are you considered when you state one shipping method in an auction and use another? Is this deserving of a Neg?

I am kinda biting my nails here with nervous energy because I had a bulky item I sold. Auction stated fixed price anywhere US via UPS..but when I got there UPS was almost 12.00 more than they quoted me on the phone.

So sent item USPS, PP, with DC an Ins. but est. delivery is 4-7 days and now buyer emails me this am....she had wanted the item for tomorrow. (never said anything about being a rush before)I explained why I chose USPS, but I am almost sure she is not going to be happy about it. (All of sudden its a gift for a birthday tomorrow?) :;ugh!::

She'll get it faster.
With USPS than with UPS.
So you did the right thing.
And you saved money!

IMHO you're both at fault. The buyer for not mentioning that she needs it asap, and you for shipping via a slower carrier.
I doubt that UPS could have gotten the package there by tomorrow anyway. Priority, which is a little more expensive than PP could have it there in 2-3 days normally.
Although she is not being reasonable at this point, you can probably expect a neg. Do alot of schmoozing, maybe you can save your ---.

I hate eating excess s/h fees and now whenever there is doubt over the cost of the auction goods I place something like "Winning bidder pays actual s/h costs" or place a line like 'winner pays $7 s/h' instead of 'winner pays $7 for Priority Mail'

That gives me some options if they live in a zone 8.

The buyers that tell you they need it right away after they buy are very bad. If they leave a negative you should teach them that that's not a fair thing to do by returning it.

I saw today that the ebay seller with the spotless feedback record that was super high has now 4 negatives in the last month. Looks like someone had a vendetta against him.

That is a shame about what has happened to that seller. People can be so messed up, its very disillusioning.

Well, I sent the buyer an email. Apologized profusely "if I had known she needed it by tomorrow".... Havent heard back from her yet.

I dont think I deserve a neg. Had she told me it was a rush, I would have ate the priority rate but as it was - I wasn't maken much on this item to begin with especially for all the handling involved.

Am now staying away from big bulky items.
(No more bright ideas for Ms Tessa.)

I try to stay away from heavy items too. I really get jealous of jewelry sellers that sell super light items. Imagine not carrying a big box of stuff and instead a cute little tote box filed with 100 orders. $1.95 s/h that costs 47 cents in stamps and 10 cents for a bubble mailer. Thanks for paying for my Paypal and ebay fees mr. buyer. The life of riley.
