Any ideas on the best category to list souvenir plates in? It seems ludicrous to list under "porcelain"/made in Japan but that's the best I've come up with. I'd like to see a "Souvenir" category under "Collectibles"...with various sub-categories (ie: plates, cup/saucer, spoons, thimbles, tea towels, etc.). These items don't really "fit" in the categories currently available. A "Souveniers" category would be very helpful to me.

I'd do a search at e-bay of the name of where it's from .Then look where the place is getting the most bids and park it there.I had a old 4 book box set of the hobbit, lord of the rings etc etc. they were only selling for 8 bucks or so in the book section so I parked them in the middle of The one rings ads that were selling like crazy at the time and I got 32.00 for them.Just an idea ...maybe someone else can do better.

I had the same quandary over the past year but discovered, to my joy, that there is a category in Housewares? (I think) then Decorative items for collector plates. I double-listed in that category plus whatever they were of--like famous movies (South Pacific, Sound of Music) or Snoopy or such. If it's a souvenir plate of a city or state or tourist attraction, I did what was suggested above and searched for where there were the most listings for that place and listed them there. Sometimes I double listed them in the Porcelain or china categories plus the above. Takes a little time.

The souvenir plates are a sell on ebay though. I thought people collected them but there must be a lot more plates than collectors on ebay. Good luck.

I use the same technique as Roadsmith. Nearly all souvenir plates will be cross - collectables and will need to be listed in at least 2 categories. I once had a beer stein that I would have liked to listed in the stein category and Ebay Motors, but I found out you can't do that. So I listed it in Ebay Motors only and got a great price for it. Another time I listed a stein in the Disney category as well as the stein category. Many times the subject matter is more attractive than the souvenir value.

Thanks...I'll check out the Housewares category. I agree that there are more sellers than buyers as most of the souvenier items I've listed just sit and gather dust...Was hoping to find a more successful way of "marketing"...I STILL think a "Souvenier" category would be nice...

The only Souvenir plate with bids on it was listed as:
Art > Other Art
