I think sellers will see a rise in deadbeat bidders once ebay eliminates email addresses from user id's. It may be a small increase, but this is why I think this will happen. A spammer needs email addresses. They will not have access to buyer and seller email addresses unless they bid on an item after Ebay changes their policy. So, I think we will see spammers entering bids and then flaking on their payments, all in the name of getting that eternal valid email address. I may be wrong, but they tend to do anything to get their list going.

Do the spammers have to harvest the addresses off ebay? There are tens of millions of registered ebay users and email generating software can make thousands of email address per second and those addresses can be used to fish for ebay users.

Here a typical software package

Email generator is a simple and "easy use" software , but it is useful. It could help you to generate 10,00,00 emails a second . Email generator could help you generate all possible emails in any email server, note : it is "possible" emails , some of the result emails maybe have no correspond users.

( looks like they don't proofread their web content )

They don't have to bid, all they have to do is "ask a question" and when you respond it gives out your email addy...

The Q & A function on Yahoo Auctions doesn't give the seller's email but instead the seller may respond to the question(s) on the auction itself with a drop down Q&A tab. I bet ebay's thinking about adopting that format.
