Is it only me?? I am trying to find a new user ID (at the request of Ebay, via their infamous popups) I have tried dozens, and they are all taken! Not only that, most of them are taken by people with 0 feedback who registered years ago and haven't done anything since then. Am I missing something here? I have tried some really far out names, and they are taken also. I love my old name, which I have had for over 5 years. Any thoughts? Thanks! really dazed!

Why change? I thought Ebay only advised changing passwords regularly.

If you are happy with your old id then I would keep it.

Linda - In an attempt to cut their usuers exposure to the spoof emails, ebay is requiring that all user id that are actuallly emailaddressese be changed. The users have the ption to do it themselves now or have ebay do it for them later.

If it's really Common Sense, why do so few people actually have it?

Thank you for explaining, Fenix!
Actually, it doesn't even have to be exactly the same as the email address, but "close to it", as mine is. I can imagine what kind of names that ebay will come up with! I hope they will have as much trouble finding unused ones as I have! Back to my list!

I tried that, and this is what they told me~

"Your User ID hasn't changed.
Sorry! Your new User ID is already identical to your current User ID.
If you really want to change it, please try again"

It is very confusing! My ebay user name is one word. My email address is the same word, with a 2 after it and address XXXXXXX . Only the one word one shows up in my auctions, but I guess because the SAME WORD is in my email address, it must be raising a red flag.

What a mess!

Have you tried spelling everything out? Example: If your current eBay ID is "[email protected]" you could try "myid_at_aol_dot_com" (with or without the underlines) or MYIDatAOLdotCOM.

Good luck!

try doing a search by seller.
Using your name your trying to change to.
Maybe you've already changed and don't realize it.

Why do you want your user ID now to run closly with your other ID. I would change it with a catchy name. If you sell the same things your buyers will find you. I just got a new user ID and the name has to do with what I sell, someone has one like it but I underlined between the words and it was okay. Be creative......i.e. if you sell jewelry use jazzy_jewels or shoes, walk_in something out of the ordinary.

Thanks for all your ideas! I finally printed the information out, and see where I fall into the picture (I think!)

It is NO.2 LIMITING THE USE OF EMAIL ADDRESSES WITH SIGN-IN.
"The second part of this phase of the project eliminates the ability to sign in to Ebay using an email address, if a non-email based user ID exists. In a few weeks, these members will no longer be able to sign in with their email addresses."

So, I don't think I have to change my user ID, but they don't say how to change the way you sign in. My brain is turning to mush! Does anyone know how to proceed on this? Any help would be appreciated! THANKS!

Am I missing something. Don't we all sign in with our user ID. Well I do. My email never enters that space. eBay is changing user ID's that are email address. That is if you don't change it first. They will pick out a name for you and that is what will become your user ID. The only thing is if your user ID is your email address you have to change it.

Libra- what i think the poster means is that if a user has somehow forgotten his/her id or prefers to do it that way, there is an option to sign in with email address (even though user id is not email based) and password..this option will be taken away in the second phase of the change. (it still works- i just tried it).

My user name is a whole lot shorter than email addy so I never sign in that way - but I remember before I sold on eBay and visited infrequently that I never could remember the user name so I signed on that way.

Me again, In my last post, the No. 2 was an exact copy and paste off the Ebay website, telling about the new requirements. To tell the truth, I am not sure what Ebay is talking about. All I know, is when I logged into certain parts of Ebay, I would get this popup saying I had to change my name, even though I NEVER used my ebay address, with my user ID. I give up - maybe tomorrow when I get up, I will have a revelation !!- and can figure it all out! Thanks to all who tried to help make this all clear to me!
